Psych and the shameless episode title draw

For an episode of 'Psych' with Darth Vader in the title, there was very little 'Star Wars' to be had. Thankfully we got a call-back to Lassie's suspicions of Shawn and Jules, and it turned out more thrilling than one would have expected.

- Season 6, Episode 1 - "Shawn Rescues Darth Vader"

I have to say, I was a bit disappointed that this episode wasn’t chock-full of Star Wars references, given that the episode was titled “Shawn Rescues Darth Vader.” I mean, technically the title is accurate, but it made up for such a teeny-tiny part of the overall plot of the episode, that I can only chalk it up to being what I titled this post. Any newcomers or unfrequenters to this show disappointed at the lack of Vader?

The best part of the episode came its end, with Lassie’s polygraph test on Shawn. Of course, at first I thought we were just going to get the follow-up question regarding Shawn and Juliet’s relationship, but then … THE question comes up: “Are you psychic?” I have to admit that I half-expected Shawn to not be able to fool that lie detector. An admission from Shawn that he was not psychic or was lying about being psychic would have turned the show in a completely unexpected direction. There’s no way the show would’ve been able to continue with no one believing Shawn was psychic, but I would have had faith the writers could pull something cool off. Alas, it was a bit of the same-old story, and a flashback shows us how Shawn was able to pull it off.

An enjoyable episode — just as all episodes of Psych are — but not exactly an incredible episode for a season premiere. Oh, don’t forget to enter our Psych giveaway!

“No.” – Henry
“Then anything.” – Woody

“Dude, I just got us diplomatic immunity. What do you want to steal?” – Shawn

“Where are you getting your accents from?” – Ambassador

“Is there any of them that don’t come from animated characters?” – Ambassador
“Not really. Does Russell Brand count?” – Shawn

“Immunity is a very limited scope of powers.” – Public Affairs officer
