The League – Google Earth Nazis

The second episode of the season shows off the gang's more douchebaggy side. How far can a friendship go when you're dealing with this level of distrust, even in a sitcom?

- Season 3, Episode 2 - "The Sukkah"

So much of what makes this show work is Ruxin being a scumbag, and then getting punished for it. It’s the yin and yang of the show, and this week there was plenty of yang and yin to go around! It takes a very special kind of man to betray his religion and heritage (and perform a hate crime in the process) just to avoid being inconvenienced with a pothole. I mean, when Kevin does it later in the episode, it was out of desperation. With Ruxin, it was out of a sense of entitlement. Like I said … scumbag.

I know the porno reveal was supposed to be funny, but it ended up being more painful than hilarious. Maybe I’m taking the show too seriously (it’s been known to happen), but the porno and the way it was revealed to Andre went too far. The league members might be all for pranks — especially those on Andre — but this feels like a true betrayal of trust. Would you stay friends with them after this? I don’t blame Andre for screwing over Pete, even before he knew about the porno. I just wonder if the events of this episode will have any consequences in the next few weeks. I hope so.

This was a very middling episode — nothing was particularly bad, but there have certainly been much better episodes. There were a handful of bright spots (how Ruxin attempts to schmooze his son’s potential teacher made me laugh), but I still question Andre’s staying with the league. Also, a word of advice: don’t talk about your wife’s menstrual cycle with homeless people.

All the best quotes:
“I am the accuser. ‘Cause I know there be a witch in this town! And you’re all suspects, you cowpokes, and this dark city of Gotham’s got a gloomy cloud cause I’m gonna ride my horse right down main street!” — Andre
“You really have mixing genres.” — Ruxin

“In honor of Sukkot, I would like to propose to you what I call the 8-way trade.” — Pete
“Wait, an 8-way trade, but Andre’s sister isn’t even here.” — Ruxin
“Andre’s sister? Shotgun last!” — Taco

“Jenny, this is Mrs. Klein.” — Ruxin
“Shalom! Thanks for coming.” — Jenny
“Absolutely, so this is your wife?” — Mrs. Klein
“No.” — Ruxin
“No.” — Jenny
“No.” — Ruxin
“No.” — Jenny
“No. My wife, she came down with something.” — Ruxin
[whispers] “Catholicism?” — Jenny
