The League – MyFace and the Bobbum man

Forget the Slender Man ... Bobbum man is the new scary urban legend. And he'll totally poke you on MyFace.

- Season 3, Episode 5 - "Bobbum Man"

A real world social network would have seemed trite coming from anyone except Taco. He really, truly believes this is a great idea — that’s what makes this part of the episode work. Like his storyline last week, MyFace was a story that blended into the other stories more than a focus of the episode. The League is good about bringing past instances back (just tonight Andre used last season’s safeword “Fidelio” again), so I’m hoping MyFace isn’t going way … there’s plenty of potential there.

With the super spooky third half of the episode, I’m guessing they’re counting this as the Halloween episode. Mundane Ejaculation Man, Crawdad Man, Bobbum man … where do the writers come up with this stuff? Perhaps they were inspired by the weekly mind-bending creepiness on fellow FX show American Horror Story. Lord knows a murdering rapist that talks like a nursery rhyme is pretty damn frightening. All I know is, Rafi is both the worse and best person to ask to be a psychopath, depending on if you’re the mark. Oh, we finally see Rafi’s place, and the excrement stained mattress, toilet/kitchen/ice tub and wall of haphazardly stacked chairs did not disappoint.

I will say, it is nice to see the “forgotten anniversary” trope be used in a different way. It would have been very, very easy for them to have Kevin forget their anniversary and Jenny getting upset with him, like every sitcom with a married couple ever. By having Jenny forget their slightly less official anniversary, it’s still the same relationship issue but in a fresh light.

All the best quotes:
“What is a crawdad?” — Ruxin
“Like, evil shrimp.” — Andre

“Taco, I don’t want you breaking into my house at 4 o’clock in the morning anymore!” — Kevin
“Yeah, that’s what all the other guys said. You guys should form a MyFace group — people who don’t like getting their houses broken into at 4 AM.” — Taco

“I’m gonna poke you!” — Taco
“I’m gonna stab you! … offline … with a real knife.” — Rafi

“Let me give you a little bit of advice — when casting a sexual psychopath with a van, you don’t actually have to cast a sexual psychopath with a van!” — Kevin
“But it’s so much easier, it already knows how to do it!” — Taco
