Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt 23 – June, the Bitch and … the Beek!

ABC has a new hit comedy in the making with 'Don't Trust the B---- in Apt 23.' Did you watch? If not, find it now, watch and laugh!

Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apt 23 or as it is officially called, Don’t Trust the B—– in Apt 23 has finally premiered. Similar to GCB, this show has gone through a few name changes since it was originally picked up last year. And, it has been a long wait for the show to actually premiere, but the wait has been worth it.

I don’t watch many comedies, but Apt 23 makes me laugh. On my first watch of the pilot, I expected June to be the dutiful, naive girl from the midwest that Chloe would continually take advantage of. But, that was quickly proved wrong when June sold all of Chloe’s furniture. Way to go, girl!

Of course, June was naive about her fiancé, but some of the most brilliant and observant women have been fooled by their mate before. Cheating men become experts at hiding their infidelity. Similar to the 2 Broke Girls pilot, it worked to get rid of the cheating boyfriend. It provided for Chloe to overcome her bitchiness in an comedic, but authentic manner and bond the two roommates.

Chloe and June are both strong women, but in very different ways. I like this set-up for the comedic potential between them. Plus, the crazy neighbors add a little spice to the story.

And, then there is James Van Der Beek playing a fictional version of himself. Initially, I thought his role would be a cameo, but he was well integrated into the story. His friendship with Chloe makes sense in a weird and twisted way. She is a solid friend for him, as he is for her. I just hope they don’t pair him up romantically with either Chloe or June.

They got Dawson’s flannel and Varsity Blues references out of the way in the pilot, where will they go now? They can’t go with a whipped cream bikini clad woman every week, right? I wouldn’t mind seeing more foreign commercials. That Vietnamese energy drink ad was a sight to see, for sure.

Did you enjoy the first episode? Will you come back for me? I know I will be!

Check out fellow Clacker, Ivey’s preview of Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt 23, that he wrote several months ago.

Here are a few Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt 23 quotes:

“June, sweetheart, I screwed your fiancé on your birthday cake, and I’m going to be late with my half of the rent.” – Chloe

[Walks in on June in the bathtub] Were you masturbating?” – Chloe
“What? No!” – June
“Don’t’ worry, I get it. I have a long-standing sexual history with that tub. Its like I’m like Jessica Tandy and that tub is Hume Cronin. Don’t mind me, get your Cronin on.” – Chloe

“My mother gave [that ottoman] to me when my Nana died. I was nine years old. It’s the only thing that I owned that I even cared about.” – Chloe
“Yeah? Well, you deserved … I’m sorry, I’m really not good at counter-punching and I brought a gun to a knife-fight.” – June
“I did that once. I was arm wrestling Kevin Sorbo in a Canadian production of….” – James
“James, not now!” – Chloe

“OK, look. Yes, Chloe is screwed up, but she didn’t start out that way. She was a child once, a normal human being before she got seduced by the dark side or whatever. She got this ottoman at a time in her life when she could still care about something. Don’t take away the one connection she that she has left to her humanity. If you do then … the crazy bitch might burn this place to the ground.” – June

“Wait, so that-that whole story about your great-grandmother, that-that was a lie?” – June
“Oh, no, that was true. You can love grandma’s ottoman and still wanna to make money on pills.” – Chloe

“Everyone, this is Chloe. She’s the bitch in apartment 23.” — June

“Come here. I know you’re upset. But, Chloe is actually trying to do the right thing. Look, she may have the morals of a pirate, but she would do anything for her friends.” — James Van Der Beek

“You saved me from wasting the best years of my life.” — June
“Yeah, well, it came with a price. I got a lot of frosting in my crack.” — Chloe

I really enjoyed it. I hope it sticks around and gets good ratings. Kristen Ritter was fabulous as usual.

My wife and I are still not sure. It seemed to really be trying to find it’s footing. There were certain jokes that felt fresh and original and actually funny, and then some others that just fell completely flat. We are both huge sitcom fans, so that’s probably why we weren’t as impressed with it. We are going to give it another try, because the jokes that did work, worked really well, but neither of us are ready to hit the “series record” option just yet.
