Today Is National New England Clam Chowder Day

clamchowder1That’s a rather odd phrasing, “National New England.” What is it, national or just in New England? Food celebration days, don’t confuse me!

I’m not a big fan of clam chowder. It’s one of those foods where I like the main ingredient (um, clams) but when they’re put into another form I can’t handle it. This also happens with pea soup (I love peas, hate the soup) and anchovies (love Caesar salads but hate anchovies). I also dislike sweet potatoes but love yams for some reason, but that’s for another post.

Here’s a New England Clam Chowder recipe from AllRecipes, and here’s a bunch of recipes for clam chowder from various New England inns, restaurants, and citizens. Just make sure you don’t eat any Manhattan Clam Chowder today because, well, red clam chowder just doesn’t make any sense.

National clam chowder day in January!?! That seems odd. I would have put it in July.

Yeah, it is a bit odd. It’s like having National Hot Chocolate Day in August.
