French toast on steroids – Breakfast at Clique-any’s

french toast

I love French toast. You probably don’t know that, since my boys are obsessed with pancakes and muffins, so we just never seem to make it anymore. Well, I’m going to work on them this week, and tempt them so completely that they will not be able to resist my Ezekiel cinnamon raisin bread French toast. I’ll work on a recipe to share with you.

What? Does that sound too healthy for you? Just go grab the junkiest, sugariest cinnamon bread you can find, douse it in egg and fry it up in butter. You won’t be sorry.

Maybe you’d rather have a basic French toast smothered in fresh berries … that would work.

Or, you could enjoy one of these other pumped-up, pimped-out recipes for French toast:

Marscapone-stuffed French toast with peaches – C’mon, I know you’re salivating already. This one would be lovely with challah or even Portuguese sweet bread.

We’ve sung the praises of Alton Brown’s simple, yet scientifically approached recipes that are all about technique. Give his French toast a try.

If you’re a junkie for Denny’s French toast, or probably any breakfast joint’s fare, this French toast recipe is probably just the one for you.

Creme brulee French toast – I don’t even know what I can say about this one to make you more interested … um, creme brulee?

I have to say, this recipe for crunchy French toast intrigues me, because if you stop and think about eating French toast, it really is missing some textural interest. Corn flakes … I just may have to try this one. I think I’d add some ground almonds to the mix too.

Gold Coast French toast – Oh, Heidi Swanson, I think we may have been separated at birth, for your French toast recipe speaks to me right where it counts … my taste buds, of course.

Chow’s eggnog French toast might be just the things you’re looking for if you host a holiday brunch. Or if you’re an eggnog junkie. No really, I hear they exist.

The French toast casserole recipe appealed to me because you can assemble it all the night before and pop it into the oven in the morning. Don’t use corn syrup when you can use agave or even maple syrup, but this is a good idea.

The Grand Marnier in the last recipe led me to click on this recipe for orange souffle French toast. How do you say “yum” in French?

Ah, now here’s my almond crusted French toast that I was envisioning with the crunchy French toast recipe. Well, not exactly, Cooking Light. Any French toast that I eat sure won’t include egg substitute, or strain out the yummy yolks. That’s just wrong.

Here’s another overnight French toast recipe, this time with blueberries and cream cheese. That definitely has some merit.

I think this post could go on forever, if only my chin wasn’t so dripping wet…. Do you have a favorite French toast recipe to share?

I’ll have to try it with Ezekiel cinnamon raisin bread but my favourite is with thick slices of challah that was baked on Friday.

Oh, and the egg has so soak right through. The bread has to get ALMOST to the point of falling apart. I went through a phase in which I liked it cooked in bacon fat. This is what happens when a Jew who grew up kosher lives with non Jewish roommates.
