‘Fast & Furious 6′ sets the bar high for every action flick that follows. It hit all the right marks with its fight scenes, car chases, and big epic action moments. Most importantly, the franchise takes care to develop its mythology and create continuity within its established universe.

After the crew walked away with millions of dollars at the end of Fast 5, the team members went their separate ways except for Dom (Vin Diesel), Brian (Paul Walker), Elena (Elsa Pataky) and Mia (Jordana Brewster). They all settled down in the Canary Islands with a new baby added to the family.

Dom and Brian are content to put their old life behind them and settle down. Though, that didn’t mean they put away their hot rides and fast driving. That all changes when Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) shows up on their doorstep asking for their help.

Spoiler alert: This article discusses specific details from the film. If you haven’t seen it yet, please stop reading. For review of the movie, check out Cisco Davis, Jr’s Fast and Furious 6 review.

After the initial scene that launched the story, the opening credits are not to be missed. They recounted the Fast & Furious story through a series of clips with the exception of Tokyo Drift which takes place after this film in the series timeline. Even though Brian questioned whether Hobbes was playing a trick on Dom about Letty’s whereabouts, he was going to stand by his friend to the end. Even Mia agreed with their decision to pursue the lead by helping Hobbes. Getting the team back together was easier than it probably should have been, but to play that out fully would have been a drag on the film’s pacing. Instead, it involved guns pulled and Las Vegas buffet vouchers. And, boom! They were back together. For full immunity and pardons, they were willing to go to work with their former pursuer, Hobbes.

After Fast 5, it seemed impossible that the series could up its quality and intensity, but it did just that.

After Fast 5, it seemed impossible that the series could up its quality and intensity, but it did just that. Fast & Furious 6 never had a moment that dragged. It moved at a quick pace and even the long fight scenes and car chases remained captivating from beginning to end. Shaw was a formidable, smart, and quite charming adversary. His set-up to draw in the authorities, kill police, and then get away was brilliant. And, the destruction of the building, explosions, and following car chase were an electrifying way to begin the quest to stop Shaw.

As with all of the car chases and fights, there were moves that were a bit ridiculous and unbelievable if overthought, but they all looked good. And, in a thriller like this, that matters more than whether its physically possible or not. The pursuit of the convoy and then the tank provided many of those moments. The most incredible — both implausible and astonishing at the same time — moment was when Letty was flung off the tank, Dom leaped for her, with them both flying through the air, he caught her and they landed safely on another car.

Impossible? Definitely. Awesome? Absolutely!

The fight scenes were also a highlight. In particular, I loved the simultaneous fights in the subway. The girl vs. girl fight between Letty and Riley and then the two-on-one fight of the guys. And, the rematch between Letty and Riley on the plane was an added bonus. The opposing philosophies of the two crews provided a backbone to the conflict. Shaw was goal-oriented and would do whatever he needed in order to get the job done. People were just pieces that could be moved in and out as necessary. He did seem to have some affection for Letty, but even that bond was tenuous. While Dom’s crew was bonded by love and a familial connection, Shaw used that to his advantage and against them when he captured Mia. With her captured, there was no choice but to turn over the chip. In the process, they got Letty back, but Riley was exposed as a traitor. Hobbes showed his humanity when he pulled his gun on the Interpol agents in support of Dom and Brian. He turned his back on the law and at least for that moment joined their family. It was an unexpected, but touching moment.

Throughout all the close calls, someone from the family had to die.

The final showdown on the runway with the planes and cars was the big action sequence that was difficult to follow at times. In a way, that might be a symptom of not understanding why the pilots didn’t realize they had extra loads earlier and land. For the sake of the story, it worked and was well-done. And, the fight came at the cost of lives. Throughout all the close calls, someone from the family had to die and it was Gisele. Her death though set into motion the next step in the Fast & Furious mythology.

With the chip saved and worth billions, the crew negotiated a new deal. Immunity, pardons, and “1327.” Dom was taking the family back to where it all started … home! The barbecue was a moving send-off. They finally found some peace and until they get called into action again, they can adjust into a “normal” life. Dom with Letty. And, his sister with Brian and baby. That sweet family moment was in direct conflict with what happened to Han. He headed to Tokyo as he planned to do with Gisele. And, to see his story, check out The Fast and the Furious: Toyko Drift. That film takes place following Fast & Furious 7 in the franchise timeline. In that film, Han is killed during a street race.

After the credit roll, an extended scene from Tokyo Drift appeared. It’s revealed that Han was killed by Ian Shaw (Jason Statham). Ian calls up Dom and says, “You don’t know me, but you are about to.” WHOA! And, with that Fast & Furious 7 began.

Despite the few incredulous moments, Fast and Furious 6 was one of the best action movies.

Despite the few incredulous moments, Fast and Furious 6 was one of the best action movies. It had an actual plot that made sense with the action sequences moving the story along. The re-introduction of Letty was plausible with the connection between the cartel and Shaw. The fight and action sequence choreography was awesome. And, for a film like Fast and the Furious, that can make or break it. Overall, loved it. One word: Outstanding!

After almost a year wait, ‘Psych’ is finally back. CliqueClack visited the Vancouver set to interview the cast about the upcoming season 7. Check out some teases about what’s to come for your favorite pineapple loving crew.

The wait to find out whether Henry lives or dies finally comes to an end when Psych season 7 returns in “Santabarbaratown 2.” Once that situation comes to a resolution, Psych continues the season with several themed episodes, including: The Clue-themed 100th episode, Single White Female episode, and the much awaited two-hour Psych musical.

While on set, we had the opportunity to speak with James Roday (Shawn), Dule Hill (Gus), Maggie Lawson (Juliette), and Tim Omundson (Lassiter). They are just as funny in person as they are on the show. Below is a edited portion of the interviews, including  a few of the funny exchanges.

Season 6 ended on a pretty dark note, are you worried that the audience might think the show took a bad turn?

“We’ve ended pretty darkly in the past, especially when James is at the helm. I think our audience appreciate it when we can mix it up a little bit like that.”

Omundson: We’ve ended pretty darkly in the past, especially when James is at the helm. I think our audience appreciate it when we can mix it up a little bit like that. And it’s not just always, you know, Pez dispensers and unicorns. I think they like it.

Lawson: Pez dispensers and unicorns.

Roday: There’s a colloquialism that has been around for many years.

Omundson: Come on. We’re happier, pez dispensers and unicorns.

Roday: The truth is creatively we’ve been trying to figure out a way to get Corbin off of the show for years. So it was a sense a relief … when we thought that this could be it finally. But you know what I think after six years, you basically shown every pitch that you have in your arsenal, and it’s fun to come up with something that the audience hasn’t seen yet and you know, it still Psych. It’s always going to be Psych at the end of the day. But, if we can make your heartbeat a little bit faster every now and then, I think it’s probably healthy for everybody.

Omundson: I really think we should’ve gone with the mauled by a wombat though. Instead of the shooting, but whatever.

Lawson: Well, that was.

Omundson: Wombats are hard to work with.

“Wombats are hard to work with.”

Can you give us an idea of what’s going to happen with each of your characters?

Roday: Well [Lassiter’s] all soft now. … We are looking forward to treating you to the beginning of the next chapter of Lassiter’s domestic life. At some point. … You know Shawn and Juliette are just going to keep feeling it out. You know what I mean.

Lawson: That’s what we do.

Roday: Dule I’m sure will talk to this as well, but we’re finally bringing him up to the front of the pack in terms of getting the love that he deserves. I mean we’re starting to kind of pair people off and think about the future and try to bring this thing in, and land it properly.

Hill: Yeah, we have the lovely Parminder Nagra. She’s on the show this year, and Gus finally kind of takes a few steps into the relationship world. And it still doesn’t go exactly as planned, but so far, so good. I think it’ll be exciting for the audience to see how Gus interacts in relationship land. We’ll see how long it lasts, though, I don’t know how long it’ll last. But it’ll be there for at least a little while.

How does Gus meet his new girlfriend?

Hill: I guess being that we’re in, you know, 2012, and there’s new ways of dating and meeting folks with social media and all those kind of things, that would be the avenue that Gus takes….

What happens when the it comes out that Shawn’s a fake psychic?

Roday: Well my feeling is that the big road block there is Shawn’s personal relationship with Juliette. I think that that’s probably the biggest issue. As far as the police and everything else. we’ve solved probably a 160 murders, …. we’ve [put] many people behind bars. The fact that Shawn may not be psychic probably isn’t going to ruffle that many feathers at this point, but you know, the fact that he’s been lying to the girl that he wants to make a life with is a different issue. So, sort of the whole Batman catch 22 I guess.

Psych season 7 returns on Wednesday, February 27 at 10 pm ET on USA Network.

Storage Wars – Do you care if it’s faked? https://cliqueclack.com/p/storage-wars-fake-do-you-care/ https://cliqueclack.com/p/storage-wars-fake-do-you-care/#comments Fri, 21 Dec 2012 01:46:15 +0000 https://cliqueclack.com/p/?p=5110 Storage Wars S 2David Hester is suing A&E Networks for allegedly planting items in storage lockers up for auction on 'Storage Wars.' David Hester is suing A&E Networks for allegedly planting items in storage lockers up for auction on ‘Storage Wars.’ If true, do you care? Or, would you rather have intriguing units even if faked?

When you are watching a reality show, do you believe that it’s entirely unscripted? Or, do you expect at least portions of the show are pre-planned or even scripted? David Hester is suing A&E Networks for wrongful termination from his job on Storage Wars. He’s claiming he was fired after complaints that the network was planting items in storage units. Whether it’s true or false, do you care if antiques or other interesting items are added to the units?

I started watching Storage Wars after my aunt and uncle raved about it at a family gathering. Within a week, I was caught up on all the episodes to date; I was hooked. With all the scripted television I watch for my job, I rarely have time to watch any reality shows. Though, it probably has more to do with my general dislike of reality and contest programming. That left me quite surprised by just how much I enjoyed Storage Wars, even when the bidders were annoying.

While watching, I never considered that the units were faked. It’s clear that some of the antics and interviews are scripted, but it never crossed my mind that the network could be hiding items in the units. They are locked, right? When this lawsuit was filed, I realized I don’t really care if they are adding items.

Why? The enjoyment of the show comes from the bidding and then the reveal of what they find. If they never found anything interesting whether valuable or not, would I even want to watch? I’d rather have the producers sneak in a car, a valuable painting, or an odd collectible, than see 30 minutes of old clothes, toys, and kitchen stuff.

I was glad to hear that Hester wouldn’t be returning to the show. The few episodes this year that he wasn’t in were much more pleasant to watch. All the bidders are annoying in their own way, but over the seasons Hester has become unbearable. His bidding and antics became about “beating” or manipulating his opponents’ bids, rather than being about finding good units for a business purpose. That ruined the experience.

I’m not a legal expert, so I have no idea what will happen with his lawsuit, but we should at least find out the truth about the units. That is unless the two sides settle out of court. I’m just glad to know that Hester won’t be on the next season. His absence should make for a more enjoyable season.

Do you care if producer’s added items to the units? Or, if true, are you disappointed? Will you continue to watch Storage Wars?

Are you looking for something unique to watch tonight? ‘666 Park Avenue’ might be the answer. Creepy is hitting ABC with an amazing cast, frightening building and devilish deals.

Back in July, the cast sat down for interviews while attending San Diego Comic-Con. Here are a few of their thoughts on the show, its premise and about their characters.

666 Park Avenue revolves around The Drake, a high-end apartment building on Manhattan’s Upper East Side owned by Gavin Doran (Terry O’Quinn) and his wife Olivia (Vanessa Williams). Life at The Drake costs more than money; it can cost the resident everything, as the bloody opening scene of the pilot graphically demonstrates.

Williams compares the couple to the Madoffs, “Everyone wanted to be [the Madoffs] and were fascinated by their money … That’s the type of power couple Olivia and Gavin represent in New York. They live in a landmark building, which everyone aspires to live in.”

“The opening sequence is what got me.” — Vanessa Williams”

In the pilot, Jane Van Veen (Rachael Taylor) and Henry Martin (Dave Annable) get the opportunity to manage this historic apartment building. Though at what cost? Williams continued to explain the downside to the building, “The young couple get in and they can’t believe they have such an amazing gig in this fantastic place. There’s a price to pay for everything. It’s about power, it’s about greed, it’s about promise and temptation.”

For Jane, she is drawn to the building itself, which plays an enormous role in the story. Taylor explains, “The building is more of a character than maybe any of us. The building is going to teach Jane and the audience the nature of Gavin Doran’s relationship with the dark side, or the Devil or whatever his bargains are. I think the clues are in the building; the clues are in the architecture.”

“I wouldn’t want people to look at the pilot and assume that [Jane’s] the dumb blonde in the haunted house.” — Rachael Taylor

The building may be the basis for this mystery, but the Dorans are just as irresistible as Annabelle says, “They’re luring us in with seduction and being this charming couple, who wouldn’t want to follow them wherever they go.”

Terry O’Quinn describes Gavin as evil man, but hopes for more, “The first impression about this guy is that he is strictly horrible, totally merciless, soulless and vicious. I hope that somehow or another we can develop a few more aspects to the man that can complicate our feelings a little bit; it’s nice to have some questions.”

A mysterious building with evil lurking around each corner with Gavin as the overseer and Jane searching for the historical significance of the building, what could go wrong?

Watch the 666 Park Avenue premiere Sunday, September 30th at 10 pm ET. Then, stop back and share your favorite moment or the one that freaked you out the most.
