Assuming there are 12 episodes in the season, as there have been in seasons past, we’ve got only four more installments to wrap season three of Showtime’s Dexter. How are they going to tie up their latest serial killer, The Skinner, in a tidy little bow? There are so many questions left ….
After the jump, join me for some slight spoilers, some predictions from around the web and some in-depth analysis of The Skinner’s M.O.
How does The Skinner choose his victims?
Are they just hookers? Nope. Has Deb talked to every one of them? No again. In fact, not every one of them has even been killed in the same way. So how does The Skinner choose his victims?
There is a greater conspiracy here, one that leads straight back to the Prado family. The first victim was Freebo’s girlfriend, the next was so random that it seemed to be a copycat killing. Then Windell was clearly murdered to shut him up, or to punish him for talking to Deb.
We still don’t really know why Oscar was with Freebo when Dexter accidentally murdered him, and something tells me Oscar was in deep and either Ramon or Miguel, or both of them, are involved in some kind of cover job. Maybe The Skinner chooses his victims based on who his boss tells him to kill?
Who is The Skinner?
There have been multiple theories on this, and we do have a number of viable suspects. The latest theory is one of the tree trimmers, since Deb just found that connection. UGO TV Blog tells us that in the next episode, the identity of The Skinner is nearly revealed, and Anton will disappear. Hmmm … is there a connection there?
A commenter on TV Squad turned me onto the fact that IMDb lists Jerry Zatarain, who played one of the tree trimmers, as appearing in the next two episodes of Dexter. One episode, and we could surmise that Deb was just following up on the connection she made. Two episodes says to me that something more is there. Could it really be as simple as a random tree trimmer? My guess is no.
But are they acting alone, working with someone else (which would explain the slight differences in the killings) or working for someone? Maybe more than one person is doing the killing, while a member of the Prado family pulls the strings? And does it somehow all connect back to the Chickie Hynes garbage? I tell ya, that Prado family is in deep.
Who isn’t The Skinner?
I guess we don’t know enough yet to rule out any of the suspects, but I sure hope Quinn and Anton are innocent. The policeĀ angle has been done with Doakes last season, and in season one, Deb was romantically involved with the Ice Truck Killer. Or maybe some girls are just serial killer magnets ….
What do you think? Do you have a theory about The Skinner? I know one thing — it will be good fun watching the events unfold.
I think Dexter is the Skinner. Everyone who has died so far could have possibly recognized him and told the police. Each death has benefited Dexter. One of the codes of Harry’s is “don’t get caught”
I doubt Dexter would have killed Windell, for sure. Killing children would seem to be against his code, and also Windell never committed any serious crimes.
I’m beginning to think that it could very well be Miguel behind the “Skinner” killings. I’m not sure, yet, though.
wouldn’t it just be wild if it were deb that was the skinner? noone would see it coming
I do not think Dexter is the skinner as killing Freebo’s girlfriend would have been against the code.
Miguel and his brother are the obvious choice, but the show is not about the obvious, and as such the tree guy would not fit.
Personally, I would put my money on Quinn, there is something very wrong with that guy.
On the other hand, you have the other regulars, such as Angel (who is going through a rough time, but getting better) and Masuka, who is just fed up with everything and is trying to prove that he is more than the comic releif for the department.
In summary, I do not have a clue but the most obvious (for me) would be Quinn and Masuka.
Before the season started, I read on several sources that 14 episodes were filmed and also that Jimmy Smits would be in only 12 of them. That’s why the “Special Guest Star” title.
That says to me that one of two scenarios may play out. Either Miguel is a bad guy and in deep with the skinner in some way or he is a good guy and the skinner may kill him, and then Dexter, having lost his “friend”, will seek avengement all the more.
I’m just guessing.
Maybe I missed something, but it was never fully explained what Ramon was doing at Freebo’s.
Maybe the Prado’s are all drug traffickers and Miguel is the head of the family. Somehow I have the feeling that Dexter will have to kill him.
Either way, Miguel Prado will be a goner, because he’s not scheduled to come back next season.
