How does Apple pick such a catchy song for EVERY iPod commercial?

Like many people, I usually have a song stuck in my head. For some reason these songs, more often than not, come from television commercials. It probably has more than a little to do with the fact that I watch a lot of TV.

I swear, though, advertisers have some mad scientists writing these songs. I’m convinced there are subliminal messages in them to make sure they get burned into your memory cells. It’s evil, and sometimes I am afraid I’m going to get triggered and enter Machurian Candidate mode and try to kill someone. That’s probably just me, though, right?

Anyway, these days the songs that are stuck in my head the most are from Apple’s iPod commercials. It helps that they pick actual songs, not some drivel written so someone can sing about Toyota’s 0% financing. I want to kill myself a whole lot less when I have one of the catchy iPod songs in my head. The big question I have though, is how does Apple pick a good song for every commercial? I’m fairly picky about the music that I like, but I find myself bopping along with every Apple ad that comes out. I’ve even bought two or three albums from the indie artists featured. Am I just a complete lemming? I think I might be.

Someone over at Apple is picking out this music, and they’re doing a great job. It’s not really surprising considering that everything coming out of Apple these days is incredibly slick (not to mention expensive). From Feist’s “1234” to Coldplay, U2, and Mary J Blige, they mix big names with small indie bands and do it well. Am I alone here? Does anyone else look forward to a new iPod ad coming out? Or am I just that pathetic all by myself?

FYI, Toyota’s 0% commercial tune is an insipid remake of The Fixx’s song “Saved by Zero” from 1983. Doesn’t make the commercial less annoying, but it’s a real song.

Thanks, I had no idea. The song is so ear-bleedingly bad I just assumed it was written for the commercial.

My recollection is that the real tune is kinda catchy, in a 1983 way, of course.

Yeah, I think the same thing.
All day I’ve been singing that “I tried to do handstands for you, everytime I fell for you… ooo oooo” one for the monochromatic iPod. It’s driving me nuts. But I love it at the same time.

Who DOES that song for the monochromatic? My girlfriend hates it and I want to annoy her with it. It was playing on a loop in Vegas and drove her nuts..
