Remember when the first X-Files movie came out to theaters? It wound up making something like $189m at the box office. Then we all waited years for the second movie to finally get made, and apparently, word didn’t get out that it was in theaters. So, now’s your chance to catch it on DVD, slackers!
We’re giving away four copies of The X-Files: I Want to Believe movie: two on Blu-ray, two on standard DVD. All you have to do is leave a comment below before this Friday, December 5 at 5 PM EST, telling us what version of the DVD you’d prefer and what your favorite thing is about The X-Files.
We’ll pick winning comments completely at random and alert the winners next week (we’ll have you pick which set you want at that time, from what’s available when you’re contacted). I’ve been a huge X-Files fan from the very first episode. I even loved the last few years when our original heroes were scarce to nonexistent. Having said that, I thought this movie was unbelievably dull and it was over before any excitement ever came into play, but I like free stuff so I’m in.
The X-Files was the first sci-fi show to really go mainstream. It made aliens and conspiracies cool, rather than super nerdy. It influenced a lot of other shows.

What I like about the X-Files is the unexpectedness (you can never guess what is going to happen) combined with the mystery – we never really know who the two top characters are or how they’ll react (even though we get sketchy concepts of their backgrounds and tendencies) – and that’s what an “alien” show should be about!

Standard DVD for me. I loved this show. I arranged my Fridays for years just to be able to watch the show. I hated when it ended. My favorite thing about X-Files were the storylines. You never knew what kind of weird thing they would throw at you. For example, the episode with the inbred family and the episode where the sideshow performer’s half developed twin was the killer.

(Standard) I freakin’ love that they were creating a a dark sci-fi, where they were killing people off in creative ways, and doing things that weren’t seen on television at the time, and are copied to death today. Also love the terrible moments. LOVE LOVE LOVE the horrible Teso Dos Bichos episode, where Gillian Anderson wrestles a stuffed cat. Great moment!

I also always enjoyed the unique camaraderie of the skeptical Skully and Mulder the believer. I haven’t seen this new film yet, but I’m hoping it revisits much of what made the old show so good. Either version is fine with me, with Blu-ray being my first choice and standard DVD being my second choice. I liked the stand-alone X-Files episodes (e.g., Kill Switch) and the conspiracy episodes from Seasons 1-6.

I want the dvd. I didn’t get to see every episode but I did enjoy the show and wish it was still on.
At first I liked the series because of the subject matter – I’m like Mulder, I just love “the unexplained”. :) But it was the characters themselves that made me keep coming back, even after a few of the stories were downright silly. The characters have entered pop culture forever.
