(Webisode #1 – “The Face of the Enemy”)
The first of ten Battlestar Galactica webisodes hit the SciFi.com website today, and so far I’m impressed with what’s being revealed to us.
Recall that last time we got some BSG webisodes, we caught a glimpse of what it was like to be Bill Adama back in his younger years around the time of the Cylon war. There wasn’t a whole lot revealed to us that was related to what was going on in the show at the time. Though, as is anything else with BSG, any content is good content. This time, though, there’s more to be excited about.
Right off the bat we learn that the first events in the video occur only nine days after the events of the last episode that aired. There’s just too much to take in for those quick few seconds, and I’m sure websites-abound have already put screenshots and analysis online.
And, of course, there is the much-alured to reveal that Gaeta is gay. I find it curious how gay characters in this show seem to conveniently stay out of the public eye aboard the ships, as though to suggest that in the world of BSG, being gay is taboo. Wouldn’t you think that we’d have already seen Gaeta and his lover a lot sooner if it wasn’t something he was hiding?
Speaking of Gaeta, I feel sorry for him with his missing leg and having to hobble around on crutches.
Anyway, I can’t wait to see how the rest of this plays out. Based on the premise and from the small hints shown in this webisode, I think I have some idea of who is going to die and why. Got any theories?
*Maybe a spoiler*
In my travels I’ve read that Gaeta also had relations with an Eight.
Regardless of how it ended she may have some feelings for him, and maybe she is doing the murdering for the twisted reason that she is helping him survive. But of course I could be totally wrong. :)
At any rate – I am so happy that the webisodes have begun!
Who says Gaeta is gay? He might have dated women before and now has a boyfriend. We haven’t seen him date anyone so who knows what he was like the last few years.
Um… Ok, so maybe I’m remembering how things were left a little differently… But there were some interesting tidbits:
– Nine days after, then three days before, right? That means that the scene with Tigh, Hoshi, and on the Raptor were six days after the discovery of “Earth.” Based on that:
– So Tigh is still XO after being outed as a Cylon? I was very suprised at this.
– There’s still a Baseship traveling with the fleet, and there are still hostile Cylons out there.
– Seems like in those flashes we saw one of the Eights try to hack into the Raptor, and that they were generally in deep crap.
– I couldn’t read any names that I recognized on the list.
I liked this a whole lot more than any of the last group of webisodes.

Also, we need to make sure Tim-1 finds CliqueClack.
Yes, someone needs to go get Tim-1.
TIgh with seeming authority does seem odd at this point, perhaps that is one of the reasons why Zarek is such a grump. Hopefully they will explain it posthaste.
I’ve left word for Tim-1, but he didn’t take the first hint… Hopefully he will catch on.
The humans and those Cylons have a peace deal, I think Tigh still being command is find. However no one really seems down that Earth is a shithole.
But how did the bad Cylons find them so quickly?
And yes these are much better than the other webisodes.
I think its fine too, I just didn’t expect it. Especially with some of the teaser scenes we’ve… Uh.. Seen.
The Adama webisodes yes… But I just remembered the Resistance ones, which I thought where badass.
Dorv….Bsgfan…..what is this place!!!
*POST AUTHOR*
Hey, welcome Tim-1! I thought for sure I emailed you when this place opened up back in October.
As for what Dorv said re: Tigh still at XO, I didn’t even consider at the time that he’d been outed as a Cylon in the last episode. That’s really quite a bit to consider.
I was thinking that since the upcoming set of episodes is the last of this series, a set group of you regulars to my reviews might want to do a sort-of roundtable discussion for each episode, besides my review (or maybe in place of?) Thoughts on that?
Anyway, glad to see you guys around!
I welcome any chance to converse with my fellas. Roundtable, square table or otherwise.
Also….to Keith and all the writers….congratulations to you on this fine site. Looks great!
Thank you Keith.
What a pleasant experience to hear from the lovely bsgfan over at tvsquad (careful….don’t want to make Akbar jealous, lol). And on top of that I heard from the famous Dorv himself. Wait till the folks at the office hear about this! Say….is this where everyone is planning to post about Battlestar? If so, count me in, especially if Keith is going to run things. I am so looking forword to seeing Battlestar again, and equally looking forword to reading the comments of you interesting people.
I’m famous? I didn’t get the memo! (I’m very, VERY afraid of these allusions you’ve made to your office mates).
BSG, Akbar, and I all seem to have migrated here, though I still spend at lot of time at TVS, I do most of my commenting here (For better or worse, as Keith has noticed). I do look forward to having BSG back on, because I haven’t found another that brings out my (boring, rambling) commenting style of old. Though, I’ve committed to making Heroes one of those shows (Though, I’ll be driving from KC to Tennessee on Monday, and will have to iTunes it later this week).
Just to get it back on topic for the boys and girls back home:
The more I game it out, the more I really am curious about Tigh still acting as the XO. I am really suprised by this turn, figuring that Adama wouldn’t be able to trust his old friend with that much responsiblity that quickly.
I don’t know why I keep double posting, but at least I caught it this time.
(I’m pretty depressed… I just went back and the TVS post for the final episode… I only posted once, and it was like 30 words. What a dupe)
I need to find another show after Battlestar ends that I can post regularly on. Too bad BSG could not have lasted at least another season. Those old arguments about too many filler episodes reminded me of the “A bad day at the golf course is better than a good day at work” analogy. So too, is a weak episode of BSG is better than many of the programs out today. I’ll have to write in my memoirs: “Life after Battlestar”. Just a little reflecting here.
I still say that I liked just about every episode, and didn’t mind the so called “filler.” I will refrain from, however, talking about that one episode that I liked that no one else did, just because its been well covered.
Ha Ha….That is so amusing Dorv, allow me to come to your aid and aver that “Black Market” was not that bad an episode….especially in the retrospect. That episode was a character-building platform for Lee. Some episodes get panned (perhaps unfairly) because they are held up against the many stellar eps. You liked it and that is the important thing from your prospective Dorv. Now….if Grace Park was in it a lot…well….then we are talking classics. (Hee Hee Hee….)
There you are sweet Tim-1. We can’t possibly discuss BSG without you! Who else could represent the Sharons with the passion that you do ? :)
I don’t think we have to worry about sub-stellar episodes – I think from here on it will be smooth sailing BSG goodness.
Thank you bsgfan….You and my other friends are such a huge part of my BSG world, following your comments is akin to extra episodes!
