This week we got down to the nuts and bolts of what the big story for the season is. Sam is going to be searching for Alan, in the hope that he can somehow help him get out of his deal. Andi is on board, and Jerry is going to be throwing up road blocks all along the way. In addition, all three of the boys now have a lady in their lives, with rather mixed results.
Starting with Sam and Andi… I’m so glad that they put the extended vacation behind them in the opener. We’ve been down that road. Plenty. I still remember all the billboards. I like Sam and Andi together, and I especially like the new take charge, cup half full, Andi. “What the Devil didn’t count on, is me.”
Sock and Kristin is an entirely different story. While I am a little annoyed that it’s all coming at the expense of some Valarie Rae Miller on our TVs, it is entertaining to watch. The latest twist, where Sock just keeps getting more and more entrenched as the big brother (your ladyhood is like a hot tub?), should put an end to any more nefarious plans. That is, unless we find out that she isn’t actually his sister, which I haven’t ruled out yet.
And Ben and Nina (Jenny Wade, Honey Pie from the Feast trilogy!)… I was spoiled on that one before the season started, so much of the surprise was gone from the reveal, but it does look to have a lot of potential. We should get a better look at how that all plays out next week. Poor Ben just has the worst luck with women. If they’re not stealing his money and sending him to jail, they’re just disappearing into thin air…
As to the bigger story, I have my suspicions. I’ve no doubt that it’s going to be fun watching the cat and mouse game between Sam and Alan, but there’s no way he can get out of the deal, right? It is called Reaper, after all. Not Sammy, Son Of The Devil.1
Other bits:
1 If you haven’t seen it, you should totally check out Lucy, Daughter Of The Devil.
This episode was much better than last week’s…mostly because my expectations were a lot higher then. I have to go back and watch the season finale because I don’t remember it being clear that Jerry was Sam’s dad (and I missed the pre-show flashback, if there was one). I’ve just been expecting more, a bigger conflict/story arc…or maybe I’m just used to Supernatural’s epic style (it’s only the end of the world again).
Also, how many episodes are they signed up for this season? 13? Shouldn’t they be making an effort to pull out the big guns early on to grab as many viewers as possible?
And I hope Ted comes back.
