House and Amber make a great team

house-tub

In fact, House and Amber make an astoundingly entertaining team, wouldn’t you say? For me, the pairing worked on a number of levels. It was fun to have Amber back, taunting House as she always did so well. But there was more to Amber’s presence than just the sheer entertainment value.

The most interesting part of Amber the hallucination was that she allowed us to see how House’s brain works. Usually, we just get the “eureka face” and then House’s ah-ha moment. Through his conversations with Amber, we got the process, something we’ve never been privy to before. The viewers saw the connections House made when he remembered the stripper’s name (um, Karamel???) and eventually, how he had known Chase would be allergic to her body butter. We were treated to the same type of process when House meandered his way to a diagnosis in the case of the week. Fun stuff!

Why is House hallucinating Amber in the first place? On one level, this isn’t really even a question. Amber tells us in the beginning of this week’s episode, “House Divided” (clever!), that she’s there because House’s guilt over Kutner’s suicide reminds him of how he feels about her.

There’s going to be a deeper reason, though, since House expects Amber to be gone once he gets a good night’s sleep, yet there she is, bidding him a cheery good morning. So will House have some sort of affliction beyond Kutner’s death trauma? A medical condition? A mental problem? The last two episodes will be goodies, that’s for sure.

That was so much fun I’d like to see her remain a la “Head Six” and Baltar in BSG.
