Diary of a Moonlight virgin – All … things come to an end

Moonlight List

(Season One, Episodes 15 & 16)

It would be disingenuous of me to say that “All good things come to an end,” because I just haven’t’ been able to jump on board the bandwagon that everyone else has. As many people have advised me, the show definitely grew on me as time wore on, but at the end of the day, I would not have given it a chance to grow on me. I’m glad I’ve taken the opportunity to go back and watch all of the episodes, because there certainly was a lot of good to be found in Moonlight.

Alex O’Laughlin is going to be a player, and I’ll probably watch Three Rivers this season just because he’s involved. Sophia Myles’ Beth also grew on me as the season wore on. I don’t need to say much about Jason Dohring, because I’ve been singing his praises since the first episode. I think he’s also going to have a long career in Hollywood.

“What’s Left Behind”

So Mick boinked his best friend’s girl after they thought he was dead (Cough cough, Pearl Harbor, cough cough). Beth called it though, when she said that as long as it was Love, it was justifiable. Unfortunately for Mick, she didn’t seem to be too happy that he thought it might have been love. The idea that Mick might have borne a child out of this relationship was interesting, but obviously not going to come to fruition. It was nice to see him live that dream if only for a short time.

There are few things in this world that I think I’m nitpicky about, but the 101st Airborne is one of them. If you’re going to take the time to put together a backstory, get it right. As far as I know (and I backchecked with some research, too), that unit was never in Italy. It takes so little to get things like this right, that it just irritates when story editors can’t get things like this right. (I will state, for the record, that I hope I’m right, and not being incredibly stupid myself, which, as you all know, isn’t outside the realm of reason).

In one way, I’m glad the season didn’t go much longer past this episode. I guess I just hate ADAs in LA County (except for one in particular, while I’m on my 101st kick), but Talbot is obviously just there to be another obstacle in the road that is Beth and Mick, but he really doesn’t feel much different from Josh. Its like they said, “Hey, lets kill Josh, but replace him with someone Beth’s not dating but still has some sexual tension with.” Which, I’ve got to ask, What’s the point?

“Sonata”

I really liked the idea of the married vampires, and was disappointed to see that even after 150 years, even vampires can find ways to be unfaithful. Its ironic to see them just when Josef might actually be softening a bit through his relationship with Simone. It was nice, though, how Jackson stood up for their relationship in the end, and chose to die with her.

I thought I recognized Simone, and a quick IMDb search tells me that she played Blah Blah on the stellar How I Met Your Mother episode “How I Met Everyone Else” (Where we are introduced to the awesome Vicky Mendoza Diagonal, which, while funny, might be one of the truest Barneyisms of all time).

I liked the Ocean’s 11-style vampire planning session. Claudia Black (Stargate, Farscape) guests as a Cleaner, which was nice to see a different look at the vampire culture. The introduction of the informant for Talbot was a nice setup moving forward, and its a shame that we won’t get to see where that goes (and the names on the list was cute).

The series ends with Beth and Mick apart. Or not. Nice little twistiness at the end, but I’d bet all the money in my pockets the change was filmed after the show had been canceled.

Vampire College Cheerleaders. Now that’s an idea for a show I can get behind. Its a Brett Love special.

Hearst College, eh? Where was it that Veronica Mars and Logan Echolls went to school again?

I hope you don’t carry a lot of money in your pocket. That last scene with Beth/Mic was filmed LONG before the show was canceled. The announcement came late..later than most and show was already over.

People’s Choice Award – Moonlight…still couldn’t save it.

Glad you gave it a chance, was the best ever? No
Was it entertaining and had so many possibilities to go somewhere? OH YES!

I am not afraid to sing Jason Dohring’s raises again : he is the next Ed Norton (or same category as Ryan Gosling or Joseph Gordon Levitt talent). What are waiting the studios and directors to hire him ? Explain to me…
He just has “it” : the thing to shine on movie screen. And there is not lot of actors who have that. (i am more a movie addict than a tv addict i have to admit..).
I had to say it one last time for the last review of Moonlight.

It was a good show, not awesome but good with potential (which could be improved) and the others actors were good, i don’t worry for them.
Alex O’Loughlin is very popular. He will be a big name soon. Sophia Myles makes some interesting independant movies, good career moves for me.

Bye Moonlight but welcome for the actor’s others projects (Veronica Mars movie anyone ?!..)

Well, I’m glad you watched it all. I loved Moonlight and still miss it to this day. I’m sure Jason and Sophia will do fine, but I really think Alex O’Loughlin is the breakout star here. Yes, the man is pretty, but his talent is what shines the most, and if you saw him on Criminal Minds, you’d see why. I can’t wait to see him in Three Rivers and the Backup Plan that he just finished filming with Jennifer Lopez. This man is going places, and I intend to follow, all the while remembering that “Little Show That Could Have” if it had been given the chance to blossom.

I’m with Moonlighter. Her comments are the same as I would leave. I loved Moonlight, especially the chemistry between Mick, Beth and Josef. We are fortunate that while CBS did not keep it going, many amazing Fan Fiction writers have carried new and astonishing stories forward. You might want to check them out at vamploveforever.com.
