Back a couple of years ago I attended a set visit for a few of Syfy’s (then Sci Fi) shows, including Battlestar Galactica, Stargate and Eureka. I won’t repeat the whole story I’m getting at here, but it has to do with Syfy’s plan to bring a reimagining of Alice in Wonderland to the network, much like they did with The Wizard of Oz with Tin Man. Last night’s Warehouse 13 perhaps dipped its toe into the waters of their Alice plans, by showing us what I believe could be some semblance of what to expect from the Alice we’ll see in their reimagining.
In the Warehouse 13 episode, the Alice that essentially switches places with Myka turns out to be a crazed serial killer. When fellow writer and TCA-goer Joel Keller spoke with Syfy’s Mark Stern last month, he seemed to remember my conversation about reimagining Alice. He went on to suggest that what Syfy is doing will be more interesting than “some girl who falls down a hole” and making her out to be a bit … unstable. In fact, it sounds an awful lot like American McGee’s Alice in TV form and, as it turns out, similar in her sadistic ways as the one shown on Warehouse 13.
So, were the writers influenced by what we’re going to see come to the channel, possibly later this year? You can bet on it.
I really wish I could have seen the BSG set in person. Thanks for the fresh sting that I never did ;)
