First let me point out the obvious: we’re a TV site; this, though, is a game I’m talking about. It is a game that you play on a television, and it’s covering one of the most iconic groups in the history of all media: The Beatles. Yes, ALL media. Music, movies, television, and print. I’m not sure why I’m making excuses for why we’re covering this here twice, but I thought I owed you my viewpoint at least. Hell, if you want to see more console-based games covered here once in a while, I wouldn’t complain!
Bob did a review last week, and one thing I really wanted to emphasize is how beautiful this game is. I tried Guitar Hero 5 last week, and its interface and graphics were almost laughable in comparison to how well these graphics are put together to make the experience wonderful. It all starts with the opening cinematic, which the below YouTube embed doesn’t do justice to when you’re viewing in HD and with a nice audio setup. Goosebumps.
Real quickly on the gameplay now. It’s pretty simple, if you’re used the other Rock Band or Guitar Hero games. The “difficult” songs aren’t so tough (I mean, it’s Ringo, right?), so you’re going to breeze through these pretty easily. Where the gameplay shines, though, is in the timelessness of the songs. Everyone knows these songs! You can play with all ages — even my five-year-old son got into the action on the drums (see: Ringo). Let’s not forget the three-part harmonies, where you can now throw a band of six together if you wanted — two guitars, drums, and three on mics.
Seriously, either buy this game if you’re trying to please a lot of people with a Rock Band title, or go watch that opening cinematic at a friend’s house who has the game. It’s really that cool.
Oh, and no more posts about this game. Promise. But that’s not stopping Conan from giving you more!
Reminds of The Beatles’ Cirque show in Vegas, Love. Both have freaking amazing visuals.
