Damages – Six months later is today

Season three of 'Damages' is fast coming to an end, and the penultimate episode revealed a few twists as the flashforwards started to play out in real time.

- Season 3, Episode 12 - "You Were His Little Monkey"

With only one episode of Damages left this season, the show covered a lot of ground in this week’s episode. There was a lot of positioning happening, making sure that characters were where they needed to be for those final moments that we have seen flashes of all season. Of course, there were surprises too. This is Damages after all.

For a while there, we were led to believe, or at least I believed, that Tom was leaving the firm in order to start a new one with Ellen behind Patty’s back. In this episode we saw that there were a few twists with that story. He resigned under pressure from Patty after his involvement with Tobin was exposed. It was further twisted when Ellen revealed that Tom had tipped off the court about his involvement in order to divest himself of Patty to get Leonard Winstone to turn on the Tobins. It was quite a brilliant move on Tom’s part. It’s a shame that he’s going to plunge off a bridge next week.

Someone in Damages always seems to turn at the last minute, don’t they? I was really expecting it to be Joe, with Leonard taking the fall for the family’s misdeeds. After all, he knew a lot more than Joe and he would have been a plausible scapegoat for the family. I like the way things are playing out though. As I’ve said before, I hate Joe Tobin, as I think we are supposed to as an audience. I really hope that he falls hard in the season finale. Kudos to Martin Short and Campbell Scott. Their explosive scene in this episode was a high water mark for the season for me.

One of the brilliant parts of the first season finale of Damages was the way that it set up the story that played out in the second season. We didn’t quite see that in the second season finale, but I wonder if we started to see the formulations of season four in this episode. Terry went to Patty, concerned about Frobisher’s behavior, wondering if he did indeed murder someone during his case. Patty and Ellen were all over it, bringing it to the DA. Could season four see Ellen prosecuting Frobisher for the murder of David? It would certainly make an interesting season, and I would love to see Ted Danson back on the show full time. At this point, I’m just hoping for a season four.

Did you love the overly dramatic “Three. Days. Later.” at the end of the episode as much as I did? There were certainly some reveals in there as well. Had we seen that someone pulled a gun on Ellen before? Or that Tom was being strangled, or beating someone up? Those flashes all seemed new to me. I love that there are still so many questions left. I can’t wait for next week!

I’m with you…..I can’t wait until next week either. “Three. Days. Later” was such a tease and yes, I saw new things. Just wish I hadn’t deleted my recording of the show because I would like to see it again.
