Burn Notice is back with all guns firing

I'm not sure how I could ever think 'Burn Notice' has gotten stale when it returns with a season premiere as awesome as this one was.

- Season 4, Episode 1 - "Friends and Enemies"

“I know exactly who I’m messing with and I’ll pretend that means something for three more seconds.” – Michael Westen, badass (did you see what I did there with the “subtitle?)

There’s been some talk — yeah, you know who you are — that Burn Notice isn’t quite what it was in its first two seasons. It’s lost focus, the storyline’s gotten a bit convoluted and the formula is worn out. Who said that?!? Not me, because I carried the love throughout season three and the season four premiere was awesome.

What could be better than everything I love about Burn Notice being condensed into one ass-kicking episode?

  • I love the voice-overs. No, they are not tired and stale — they still make me smile.
  • I love the warped chemistry between Michael and Fiona. Of course she’d punch him before she kissed him.
  • I love the dynamics between the three leads, and the way they played out when Michael returned in the middle of the biker gang fiasco. Talk about from the frying pan into the fire….
  • I love Michael and his badassery. See above quote.
  • I love Barry — he’s like a computer badass … is there such a thing?
  • I love it when Michael eats yogurt.
  • I love the action of the fun weekly cases, and the way the characters banter during them. In this one, we got a car chase, multiple shoot-outs and a biker chick kicking Sam’s ass. And a lawyer with a tattoo — is that legal?

They gave us some forward motion on the whole burn story arc this week too, with Michael’s new “partner,” Vaughn (Robert Wisdom, otherwise known as Uriel) and left us with a moral dilemma for our dear Michael. In the words of Sam: “Mike, you just burned a spy.”

What a clever new twist to freshen up the series. I’m looking forward to seeing how it plays out and I don’t even think Burn Notice is lacking. You think Coby Bell‘s Jesse is going to keep Mike on his toes? Will Mike mentor him? Will Fiona sleep with him? It’ll be fun to find out….

Agreed with everything and love how they still show Michael to be human. He isn’t this posturing, I don’t give a damn about people badass. He only uses it when he has to.

I thought this was shown best when Michael was distressing about whether he would turn into Simon and do the dastardly things he has already done. And then his mom hugs him and says this is not how I raised my son.

This show had the potential to become so one dimensional but it really comes out with swinging with a lot of action, comedy and heart.

Look forward to more of Season 4.

It is just an excellent show. Again basic cable, especially, USA, also TNT and FX continue to be where it is at for the TV junkie like myself. I have to put in a good word too for Comedy Central–Stewart and Colbert are appointment viewing. I am less impressed with the premium channels; HBO/MAX, SHO/STARZ and ENCORE. I’m beginning to wonder if I am getting my money’s worth there.
