The Practice virgin’s diary – A gross miscarriage of justice

With a plea off the table, Bobby and crew make one more desperate play at springing Lindsay from jail ... with a little help from their old friend Helen.

(Season 7, Episode 3)

What a crushing blow! I had just started putting together a grassroots movement to sway potential jurors in Lindsay’s retrial, and then suddenly she’s free. And I don’t think it could have possibly been due to a more bogus reason. Walsh is a dirty scumbag, but there was no basis to believe beyond a reasonable doubt that the original analyst’s report was anything more than early-stage investigation, an area that need not be turned over to the defense.

You can always argue that one out of five dentists believe “A,” but the conclusion is always going to be the consensus of the other four.

7.3 “Of Thee I Sing”

I thought it was hilarious when Bobby and Eugene looked stunned after Walsh rejected their plea bargain offer. After Walsh had sent Lindsay to prison for life the first time around, why in the world would Bobby be sure that he’d go for a plea instead of going to trial again? What planet is he living on? Obviously in hindsight it would have been better had Walsh dealt, but in the moment it was absurd.

It is beyond me how Helen continues to have a job in the DA’s office. After everything else that she’s done, to “anonymously” send that report to Donnell and Associates, betraying big Ken in the process? How has she not been fired and disbarred already?

And why was Ellenor back up there arguing the motion? She’s a disaster of an attorney, her own firm was prepared to argue inadequate counsel because of her, and she’s the one up there in Lindsay’s last desperate grasp at freedom?

And the notion that a preliminary lab report could be exculpatory is ridiculous. I had an earlier version of the previous sentence I just wrote … am I not presenting my full review by not revealing it to you? I’m sure Walsh strong-armed the analyst, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the final report was potentially not accurate (although he wasn’t moving at all, but whatever) — that doesn’t mean that a preliminary report is conclusive in any shape or form, or that not sharing it is withholding evidence. And Ellenor didn’t even argue self-defense during the trial! The movement, or lack thereof, of the victim wasn’t even part of their case! The whole thing was ridiculous.

But no more so than the fact that it got Lindsay released. I expected some weak nonsense to get her out soon, possibly during her new trial, but this garbage? As far as I’m concerned she’s still in prison.

Jamie (Jessica Capshaw) looks to be the hot new thing on the show. The episode seemed balanced with her on one side and everyone else on the other. Jon Cryer looked very “Duckie” in appearance, but the part of a perverted flasher didn’t suit him. Funny watching Grey’s Anatomy’s Arizona go up against Kate Burton, also known as Ellis Grey … did they ever share the screen on the medical drama?

Great way to act during the close though, Terry (Cryer). What could have compelled him to pull his pants down while his lawyer was talking? Isn’t that more Charlie Harper, and less Alan?

I think you’ll enjoy Season 8. Alan Shore is a refreshing change from this group.
