What is going on this season with second episodes? Of the shows I’m covering here at CliqueClack only Glee delivered an entertaining second episode. This week’s Desperate Housewives went pretty much nowhere, although I’ll give it credit for dropping a lot of hints about things to come. But the rest of the show didn’t have the bite of the first episode.
Do we really need another episode about Tom and Lynette’s dysfunctional relationship? We’ve certainly been down this road before with Lynette’s Type-A personality steamrolling poor Tom, and now that Tom has male postpartum depression, she basically ridiculed him for making up a disease then freaked out when another woman actually lent him an ear. Of course, it didn’t help that the woman was Lynette’s “frenemy” Renee. At least the problem was solved by the end of the episode and gave us the added bonus of discovering Tom and Renee must have had a dalliance way back when. And with Renee moving into Edie Britt’s old house, it looks like some of the naughty fun sorely missing since Nicolette Sheridan’s departure will finally be back!
More exposition came with Susan keeping her sexy housecleaning job a secret from Mike, but for how long? The best part of this whole storyline is Lainie Kazan. And how long will it be before Bree hits the sheets with Keith? And now the cat is out of the bag regarding Gaby’s daughter, so how long before she snaps and blurts out her secret about Carlos’ mother’s death? Unfortunately, none of these stories is really grabbing me at the moment, so I hope things will get a little spicier as the season wears on.
I am, however, intrigued by the return of Paul Young, especially since he welcomed his new “wife” Beth to Wisteria Lane. I assume they did get married while he was in prison, but Beth had no idea she’d end up with a husband who wasn’t behind bars. While this could end very badly for Beth, it will hopefully be a juicy story to get us to keep tuning in each week (let’s hope Felicia Tilman and Beth are able to team up at some point). Not a great episode, but the additions of Renee and Paul are giving the show a little needed kick in the pants.
“What the hell is wrong with you people? First you take out my mother-in-law, then you go after my daughter. Are you trying to kill off every Juanita Solis on the planet?” – Gaby after Bree nearly ran over little Juanita
“So I see you let our tomato plants whither, just like you did our relationship.” – Lee
“Well that’s what happens when you grow needy, whiny tomatoes.” – Bob
