For those of you who haven’t seen it yet, Matt Bomer, the super-hot star of White Collar, recently sang at The Kennedy Center. It was very Broadway and amazing, but not exactly what I picture Neil Caffrey singing. Because I do, of course, expect actors to be faithful to their characters at all times. He’s got a good voice, right? One of the wonderful things about White Collar is the fact that while she’s underused, Diahann Carroll is a castmember. Coming up on either February 1 (according to White Collar creator Jeff Eastin) or February 8 (according to Matt Bomer), Neal and June (Carroll) are going to be singing a duet. I got a chance to ask Bomer about this, and he said that he and Carroll are going to be singing “One for my Baby (and one more for the road).” Not only that, but they are going to be joined by guest-star Billy Dee Williams playing (fake) piano.
Bomer says that Williams is “the best fake piano player I’ve ever seen in my life. But he had such a look of unconditional support when he would look up at me … it really bolstered me and I wish I could take him everywhere with me when I sing.”
“One for My Baby” is a beautiful song, and getting to hear Bomer and Carroll duet on it is going to be amazing. I’m just waiting for the Matt Bomer/Tim Dekay fever-dream all-singing all-dancing episode. Maybe season 3?
