This week on 30 Rock we got a little peak at how things are going to be changing at the fictional NBC after being bought by Kabletown. After watching this epsiode, I think it’s safe to say that things are going to get interesting for Jack. With executives like the very funny Hank Hooper pushing the “family company’ philosophy, I look forward to seeing how Jack is going to adapt and fit in with the touchy-feely new culture. He has been “the man” for so long, it might be fun to see him squirm a little.
Most of this week’s episode focused on Liz being forced to pretend to be pregnant to cover for Avery’s eight month pregnancy. Even with the Michael Kors wizard robes, I’m not sure how she was able to hide her bump for so long. I wonder if the show is going to have Jane Krakowski in wizard robes when they hide her real life pregnancy. I thought it was a decent plot line, but this really turned out to be a fairly middling episode of 30 Rock in my opinion.
I think the funniest parts came with Carmen Chao, and no one being able to figure out her ethnic background. With so many news anchors going for ultra-authentic pronunciation, I thought it was a funny touch. The other moment that really got me laughing was Jack’s attempt at voice activated TV control, which was thwarted by an unfortunately scripted episode of Law and Order SVU.
My favorite quotes of the night:
“Actors deserve gifts. Without us, who would present awards to actors?” – Tracy
“We need a button that switches from pornography to basketball immediately. What you have isn’t fast enough. My kids are starting to ask questions that I can’t answer.” – Pete, pitching an idea to Jack
“It would allow parents to erase racy content, like soccer or a woman stuffing a turkey” – Hank Hooper, on the idea to block half the TV picture with a black bar
The DVR bit was classic! I was gasping for air, it made me laugh so hard especially the “Delete All” and “Crap” voice commands. And Avery was doing a great job of hiding her eight months pregnancy by the looks of her at the end. She just looked a little bloated!
