On a night when sickness ran rampant among several of the contestants … on a night when song choices were definitely suspect, this was an American Idol episode leaving many of us scratching our heads in wonder. It was loaded with miscues and strange offerings.
Where words fail me (and they really don’t, but I’ve decided to go a different route this time ’round), videos shout the proof the evening was weird. I offer two examples from last night to showcase what shouldn’t have been:
*whew* Little rough, wasn’t it?
Hokay … hokay … it was a truckload of rough, you’re right. But you know what? As good as Casey is, he can afford a stumble every now and then. It’s not going to kill him. But that … that, my friends, was a tough pill to swallow.
Ugh and ugh. Just say “No!” to Tina, Naima. This performance will not only put you in the Bottom Three, I predict it’s going to cement you in my little trifecta sidebet I have going on that I mentioned last week.
I’m not going to belabor the other performances outside of stating Scott McCreery and (surprise!) Stefano Langone were the only ones in the bunch who had reasonably decent output.
The rest? Well, this week was pretty much one to toss in the round file. They’ll look back at the result of their efforts, pull themselves up by their boot straps and hope they aren’t targeted for elimination.
All but Naima, that is. Because she’s outta here.
I was able to watch last night. Casey, in the words of my son, “that was just scary.”
I have no emotional attachment to the contestants as many of my live Idol Chat buds do. The people they were salivating over (Pia and Jacob mainly) failed to impress me. In fact, it was painful.
Paul seemed to have sucked in a baker’s dozen of helium balloons prior to his step in the spotlight. Criminy!
Did I hear Seacrest correct when he said the proceeds from downloads of the performances would be sent to Japan? Haven’t those people suffered enough?
Yeah, Mikki. People may download them just to help out but the performances were poor last night. I think I am the only one who feels this way but I thought Haley did a lot better last night. Jacob’s version of Alone was not good so I don’t what the judges were hearing. Pia is really good but I don’t think she’s the next Celine or Whitney. Of course, she is the other girl that I think stands a chance against the guys. I did like Stefano performance though. Casey – love this guy but all I can say is – UGH! Hopefully, next week is better. I still say Season 5 was the most talented season no matter what Ryan or Randy says!
This week I completely agree with you on everything, Michael. I was laughing out loud by the end of Casey’s performance. Naima and Thia were awful. Stefano was all right, but boring. Country boy was very good – he’s been consistent. I’m not a fan of country music, but I think it would be interesting for a country singer to win. He might have more success than the mediocre pop/rock “stars” AI keeps churning out. The most successful American Idol winner so far has been a country singer.
Glad to see you found a place to see tapes Michael – great article – AS USUAL!!!! :)
The ONLY 2 that really did anything for me were my local boy – Stephano….and Pia….I’d LOVE to see them due some duets….could listen to them all day!!!
Karen was OK…..she’s been another fave…no matter WHAT happens to her…I predict we’ll hear plenty from her in the future :) Oh and I liked Lauren-no bad for bein sick.
The rest were just MEH for me.
Hailey…..in the infamous words of Simon Cowell – WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT???
Naima…ummm yo – don’t take on Tina this early – IF EVER
Paul – Poor kid….that had to be hard singing as sick as he sounded!
I actually like Jacob’s version of Alone….not hot like Stephano’s effort, but I liked it.
The rest, just weren’t memorable enough to rate a comment!
Michael, it isn’t often I say this, but you were not nearly snarky enough on this review. PU – there is a bad stink somewhere. The only consolation I had after last night’s debacle was the sense that Naima was history.
Then I turn on tonight’s result show, and a bad week got worse. First of all, what in the world with that group song? Let’s just talk technical miscues for a minute. Did they bring back the sound crew that slaughtered Kenny Rogers appearance on Idol oh so long ago?
It was no surprise that three girls were in the bottom three, but when Naima was told she was safe I was left with a big “Huh?”
“Huh?” again when Karen was the one voted off, and a double “Huh?” when the judges didn’t save her. Karen was not my fave, or even my female fave, but I’m surprised Jennifer couldn’t win the others over.
Judges, get real with these contestants. No one did their BEST this week, not even the producers.
