A few reasons why your mom likes Bob’s Burgers

The flowers have been delivered. The gifts have been bestowed. The phone calls have been completed. All mom wants to make the day complete is a little relaxation in front of the television with 'Bob's Burgers.'

- Season 1, Episode 11 - "Weekend At Mort's"

Nothing – nothing - says Happy Mother’s Day like a brand new episode of Bob’s Burgers.

What better way to wrap up the annual celebration of “all things mom” than with the relaxing warmth of animated television viewing? Because — as you all know — Mom can only take so much love and hugs and kisses and presents and pampering and well wishes.

For that final day’s sigh of relief, Bob and his clan provide comfort in the form of a few laughs.

You see, during Mother’s Day Mom needs to be on her best behavior, if you think about it. I mean … she is Mom. She can’t be running wild in the streets or carousing and causing mayhem on the day we honor her … right?

Instead, she can live vicariously through The Belcher Clan. Better, she can be glad she has her family rather than the one Bob and Linda contend with on the show. For example, you can tell from the opening minutes of “Weekend At Mort’s” that the monkey business will commence in short order:

“Okay, kids … don’t climb on anything, don’t touch anything. If you do touch something, don’t touch me afterwards. And don’t play with dead bodies.” — Bob as the family enters Mort’s mortuary
“Do you think he’s gonna have skulls?” — Tina
“What do you think he eats soup out of?” — Louise
“Hey do you think he’s gonna have gum he takes out of corpse pockets? ‘Cause if he does, I want some!” — Gene

She can be glad she’s well past the time of her kids being young and precocious. Remember those years of “anything that can be jumped on will be jumped on,” Mom?

“Wow. I didn’t know you were rich. Kids off the furniture …” — Bob to Mort and the kids who are jumping on furniture
“Well, I get a lot of stuff cheap. Everything in here had someone die on it.” — Mort
“Kids! Off the furniture … !!!” — Bob

She’s also done with things such as that unknown moment when a new babysitter comes over for the first time for that emergency sitting job while she heads out on an unexpected emergency. Sort of like when Mort watched the kids in the episode:

“Who wants to help me glue a toupee on an old man’s cadaver?” — Mort
“It’s like camp!” — Louise

You can practically hear Mom’s sigh of relief, can’t you? It’s a welcome exhalation of satisfaction as Mom becomes one with the living room sofa, in complete command of the remote control.

If at least for a little while.

Same here. Poor “Bob’s Burgers,” overlooked & underappreciated.
