Weeds season seven is almost here

Summer shows are beginning to premiere and I can't wait until the end of the month and the return of Showtime's 'Weeds.' With a three year jump into the future, what is season seven going to bring?

As summer rolls in, there are fewer and fewer shows on the air. However, I almost welcome it, because it seems that as quantity goes down, quality goes up. It seems that so many of the shows that come back on cable during the summer months (particularly on the premium networks) outshine the network shows in terms of quality and production value. Certainly, a lot of them are summer fluff, which I am not so in love with, but one of the shows returning soon that I’m really eager to see is Weeds.

I was a definite late comer to Weeds, having caught up with the entire series late last year. Every season has definitely been very, very different from each other, but they have all featured the brilliant Mary Louise Parker. It’s really her show; her character Nancy Botwin is the center of the show and the driving force of the action. She is flawed, despereate, scheming, strong willed, frustrating, and a blast to watch. I love that she is a deep antihero who continues to get herself into deeper and deeper trouble.

Last season ended with her in the deepest trouble yet, as she gave herself up to the police in order to get her family out of the country and out of harm’s way. I’m excited to see what the future holds for Nancy and the rest of the Botwins. With season seven picking up three years after Nancy’s arrest, a lot is going to be different. Nancy is going to be out of prison, but I hope we get to see some of her time behind bars (is she going to get some awesome corn rows like Celia did?). Will the rest of the Botwins still be in Europe making a new life for themselves?

I know that a lot of viewers have grown tired of the show constantly reinventing itself and dumping some of the old characters along the way. I have to admit that I kind of miss the old days of Nancy slinging the weed around the suburbs and going head to head with Celia. And, yes, I miss Celia a lot, along with the her portrayer Elizabeth Perkins. Ditto for Romany Malco and several of the other older characters. I’m not sure, however, that Agrestic could have sustained seven seasons worth of plot.

In any case, as long as the Botwin clan is finding ways to get into trouble, I’ll be on board, checking out the premiere on June 27th. What do you think is going ot happen in season seven of Weeds?

You are one of the few fans that like the later seasons. To me the show ended with Nancy driving / riding the Segway away from her house as it burns to the ground.
