TV SHOWS COLUMNS FEATURES CHATS QUESTIONS

Ratings Clack – Big Brother returns, Falling Skies steady, Rookie Blue renewed?

The holiday weekend meant a slow week, even by summer standards. The interesting stories come from how well 'Falling Skies' is holding up, and the possibility that 'Rookie Blue' has already earned a third season.

CABLE - Holidays have a way of creating havoc for ratings. Usually. There were a number of good examples surrounding the 4th of July weekend. Leverage (2.46m/.7) was missing nearly a million viewers, as was Secret Life of the American Teenager (1.6m/.6). Even more surprising, True Blood (2.9m/1.5) was off more than 2 million viewers, and missing half the demo from the premiere. Of course, none of those numbers are really cause for concern, because of the holiday. I bring it up to show how remarkable it is that Falling Skies (4.07m/1.4) was only down .13m/.1. That would be a solid result without the holiday. So far so good for TNT’s latest.

  • Switched At Birth (1.68m/.7)
  • Teen Wolf (1.21m/.5)
  • Nine Lives of Chloe King (1.31m/.4)
  • Covert Affairs (4.8m/1.4)
  • White Collar (4.19m/1.3)
  • Pretty Little Liars (2.42m/.9)
  • Hawthorne (2.52m/.8)
  • Memphis Beat (3.33m/.6)
  • Royal Pains (5.02m/1.6)
  • Necessary Roughness (4.42m/1.3)
  • Franklin & Bash (2.58m/.9)
  • Men of a Certain Age (1.79m/.4)
  • Burn Notice (4.88m/1.4)
  • Suits (4.53m/1.3)
  • Futurama (1.55m/.7)
  • Wilfred (1.52m/.7)
  • Louie (.95m/.5)

NBC - America’s Got Talent (15.78m/4.6 – 12.85m/3.6) continues to lead the summer charge for NBC. That 4.6 on Tuesday tied the series premiere for a series high. There was also a little mileage to be had with the Macy’s 4th Fireworks (8.71m/2.1). The rest of the week was rather uneventful, including Marriage Ref (3.67m/1.2), Love In The Wild (5.83m/1.9), Minute To Win It (5.17m/1.4), Love Bites (1.98m/.7), and Friday Night Lights (3m/.7).

ABC - With The Bachelorette taking the 4th off, the ABC schedule was very middle of the road. There was a good amount of programming, but no numbers for the network to really get excited about. The players were 101 Ways (4.92m/1.9), Combat Hospital (4.28m/1), Wipeout (6.81m/2), Expedition Impossible (5.65m/1.7), and Rookie Blue (5.7m/1.5). That Rookie Blue number may, or may not, bring good news to fans. One of the show’s stars, Missy Peregrym, posted news of a season three renewal to twitter, but the message has since gone missing. Curious.

CBS - There’s still not a lot to report from the network, but they are finally ready to enter the summer competition, as last week brought the premiere of Big Brother (7.89m/2.8). The week also brought a rebounding Flashpoint (6.23m/1.2) and the Boston Pops Fireworks (6.65m/1.1).

FOX - Just three entries this week, in the form of MasterChef (4.82m/2.1) and So You Think You Can Dance (6.46m/2.4 – 5.54m/1.7). The performance night numbers for SYTYCD are encouraging, bouncing back from what was a very iffy result the previous week.
