Moby Dick – Why are we just now finding out about this mini-series?

A "reimagined" version Herman Melville’s classic comes at us in a 2-part Encore presentation with little fanfare and an unexpected surprise in Gillian Anderson.

Cripes and Cripes … !!!

I just found out about Encore’s Moby Dick … and it starts tonight! This surprising vehicle will entertain us over the course of two evenings,  Monday and Tuesday, August 1st and 2nd.

Have I been living under a rock? Where has the promotion been on this mini-series? It looks terrific! Just take a look at its boastful cast of Academy and Emmy Award winners and nominees:

WowZah! So … why haven’t we heard more about this? I first caught wind of it on The Late Show with David Letterman last Friday evening featuring a feisty and beautiful Gillian being interviewed by Dave. My jaw was on the floor when I heard she was going to be appearing in it.

Not only is there a top-rate cast, but the preview is engaging. And come on: The captain’s wife … !??! Melville’s book barely touched on women let alone the wife of Ahab, but here we have a fully fleshed out characterization! Come on!  Gillian Anderson! I don’t know about you, but I’m stoked about this.

More interesting tidbits (per The New York Times’ Ahab Has a Wife and a Heart. Oh, and a Whale) reveal the production features modernish (inadvertent?) dialog and hat tips to popular film. Equally as interesting is its production: 2010. Last year!?? Really?

But wait … there’s more Some sources are balking at the fact that this is even a world wide premiere as it’s already aired in the likes of Australia and other locales.

But that’s not going to hinder me from watching it, no sirree Bob.  Anyone else going to tune in besides me?

Sounds intriguing. At least intriguing enough to get me to hunt it up on my Dish schedule! Thanks for the heads-up, as always!

My guess is it’s only been promoted to those who subscribe to Encore.
