Weeds does the Hamptons

Stevie inadvertently came up last night for the first time in what seems like ages … is Nancy ever going to get back to fighting for him, or at least attempting to speak to him over video chat? What happened to her "all for my son" attitude?

- Season 7, Episode 11 - "Une Mère Que J'aimerais Baiser"

I like Silas … I’ve always been a fan. And yet I can’t imagine it possible for him to be acting like more of a big baby throwing a giant hissy fit. Which leads me to wonder: has he always done better away from Nancy?

He was good fun selling weed out of that sandwich shop with Lisa (Julie Bowen), and he and Doug were awesome running their medical marijuana shop (for as long as that lasted). But around his mother he’s everything that he tells her he’s not: impulsive, irresponsible, immature … a kid. And it’s only gotten worse the older he’s grown.

So you’ll have to forgive me for thinking that he — and, more importantly, we — might have been better off had he not stolen that girl’s car and joined his family as they fled to Michigan. Or had he never left Lars and joined them on the plane to Copenhagen. I’d still expect his story to be a part of the show, but maybe that way his tale would be an enjoyable one.

Emma (Michelle Trachtenberg) completely screwed him … and his family! Okay, so he felt marginalized when Nancy rejected his merger with Pouncy House, but storming out when Shane told him that Emma had been busted? And stealing the MILF database was a pathetic attempt to get back at mommy. I really hope he doesn’t bring it to whatever’s left of Pouncy House … or worse, use it in some way to free Emma (I’m not sure how he’d do that, but I don’t even want to see him try).

Meanwhile, I thought Nancy’s idea for selling weed at $500 a pop was great .. but why wasn’t calling it what it is, Afghan weed, enough? I’m imagining her weaving a yarn about a family of suicide bombers, and the weed the survivors grow in order to live and fund their mission. Not exotic in a romantic sense, but still pretty exotic. She even could have somehow twisted it into some “Support our Troops” thing … anyway, it was still fun as it was, and listening to her clients’ stories was hilarious.

I actually like the idea of Doug’s fund being so desperate as to agree to front a drug business. First of all it keeps Doug in the loop. Second, the only way it’s believable for Doug to be a king on Wall Street is for his firm to be so shady that it’s farcical. I think this gets that done.

I’m hoping Andy does more this season than mope. Is it just me, or were you surprised to hear that he still pined for Nancy? It hasn’t seemed that way in seasons, and I’d have to think that, eventually, her treatment of him would cause him to lose interest in a desperate attempt to preserve some shred of his dignity. Guess he’s not there quite yet.

But I hope Andy takes some initiative in his life. Even if that means joining Silas in his crusade to take Nancy down once and for all. Andy’s funny pretty much all of the time, but it’s tough to make pathetic and dejected humorous; he needs a little hope to make him shine.

And where is this season going, with only a few episodes left? No idea … you?

Are they setting the stage for Silas not returning next season? He may have other career commitments and he’s opting out of Weeds. Just saying. . . . .

I wonder … Weeds has always given me a strong “family” vibe, as messed up as that family may be. That’s why I’ve always bought everyone following everyone else from place to place. Could it survive if one son disappears?
