You’ve got to know that none of the boys of The Big Bang Theory had a very stable childhood. In fact, we’ve seen time and time again examples of their challenged youth. When Jimmy Speckerman comes to town, it makes sense for Leonard, all-grown-up, to try to stand up to him. It also makes sense that Leonard, all-not-so-grown-up, would fail miserably trying.
My favorite part about this episode, though, was the dynamic between the ladies and the men. Penny obviously was the bully in high school … not in the mean, physical way, but I can easily see a younger version of her tormenting the other, less popular girls. That she’s found friendship not only with Sheldon and Leonard and the gang, but more specifically with Amy and Bernadette is a much better evolution than Jimmy made … even before he sobered up.
