FOX announces House’s last season – is it really time?

'House' the series will go no farther than this eighth season, it was announced yesterday. While I am sad that one of my favorite shows will no longer be airing new episodes, probably the producers made a smart decision. Probably ... ask me again when I'm missing it desperately.

It was announced yesterday that this will be the final season of FOX’s House (press release follows on page two). I am so, so sad. House is one of my favorite shows and in my opinion, the best show on network television in terms of the quality:longevity ratio. Every week, I’m amazed at how the writers can keep upping the game. I’d be happy if they could just stay consistent; bringing more to the table is a miraculous bonus.

But if House has to go, I want it to go out on a high note, and that would be now. The quality has not dropped in the least, but the ratings have. I can see why some fans would have dropped off after the team shake-up (but then they would have missed House at the height of his ass-ness, just before the fall), and also after the House and Cuddy pairing (but they would have missed how Cuddy truly helped House to be a better person). To me, the show is not about plot points, but interactions, symbolism, character growth and moral dilemmas. Those things remained consistent and the show is better than ever. I’m also guessing Laurie’s ready to move on and I’ll follow him just about anywhere he turns up … and the writers too. There’s nothing worse than watching one of your favorite shows go downhill (yes, Alias, I’m looking at you) when if they had just quit while they were ahead, you wouldn’t be left living in season two, denying all that followed. …

That won’t happen with House, and that’s a good thing.

Then again, there’s so much more goodness to mine with Adams and Park, and even House, Wilson, Chase and Foreman. Taub, maybe not so much, but what they’ve done with the selfish bastard has been exquisite. I’ll greatly miss analyzing the subtleties of this one-of-a-kind show.

I did watch House for the first few seasons, but after the change in staff and the death of Wilson’s girlfriend, it stopped being must see TV. I finally gave up when Cuddy and House got together. I can’t say it’s sucked for seasons, it just wasn’t enjoyable for me anymore. The ratings are going down and it sounds as if the cast is ready to move on. Those are both good reasons to stop producing the show. I’m glad they are taking the opportunity to wrap up storylines and give the show a proper sendoff.

The statement from David, Katie, and Hugh ends with House’s mantra, “Everybody Lies.”

Is it possible that they are lying about something in the statement? Are they just teasing us?

I thought the same thing for a brief moment, but I think they may have an inside joke going with something in the statement … maybe the Big Bad Network line or something?

I am gonna miss the show. Not many shows draw me in where i want to watch them time and again, i am running behind in them but its one of the very few shows i seach for and i am willing to get netflix just to catch up on them. House has been one of my favorite characters for years. There are not may out there that are as complex as he is, hes an ass, he will tell you hes an ass but he has a following like no other. The staff change was odd but i think that it could go on. It is its 8th season tho and i know that things cant last forever. His snarkyness made my day allot of the time. Atleast its not going out on the note of the simpsons. I have watched them so long i BEG for them to end it.

“House” was one of my favorite series but I stopped watching it after House got out of rehab and his personality was even more obnoxious than ever; also, when Chase & his wife (can’t remember her name) separated, that completely turned me off as did the entire revamped cast. Hugh Laurie is a magnificent actor and my hat is off to him but it’s time to say farewell.

I personally love house. I particularly love Thirteen. The one thing i didn’t like about house was the open good bye she gave house in Charity Case. I hope she shows up again in an episode just for a little bit. And honestly, house only had 8 seasons. when NCIS finally wraps up, then i will be sad.

The near perfect ending is when Chase and his wife (No one remembers her name. lol) got married and House got locked up in the crazy pen. That would have made a nice ending with some closure for sure.

The last few seasons have really been rather bad. House in a monster truck? House trying to cut off his own leg? House trying to kill everyone by driving into the… house. Too much.

Cameron. Her name was cameron, and I remember bc I lover her. I love 13 also, I don’t like the new staff though, especially Adams. She annoys me to no end.

Other: House has sucked for about a season and a half — what’s wrong with Debbie?

House’s appropriate ending was when he confesses, drunkenly, into Cuddy’s lap that he’s not quite as intellectually superior, but that’s all right ’cause he’s happy. Just change her expression of foreboding into one of happiness and cut all the crap that came after about the break up, attempted manslaughter, etc. and you’ve got a perfect ending.

That was one of my favorite moments of the series, and you’re right, it would have been a perfect ending. I’ve loved every moment since then as well, though, so I’m definitely not sorry it’s still around!

This is a really great show. I’m sorry to see it end. It was the one bright spot in my gloomy Monday’s every week for 8 season’s. Hugh, you are a great actor and I will miss you dearly! Thanks for all the good laughs. I had a great time! P.S…don’t you just hate the “jumped the shark phrase?”

I’m a big fan of House…I have seasons 1-6 on DVD and have seen them all multiple times. But, since the season 6 finale, House has gone downhill…fast. The season 7 finale was about the last time any recognizable characters were present, until the return (and abrupt departure of) 13 at the beginning of season 8. Luckily Chase and Taub are back, but without Cameron, Dr. Cuddy and 13, the show’s weak. Also, Amber Tamblyn did little for the show in season 7…luckily they discontinued her character (long overdue in my opinion…why was she on a whole season anyway? Probably to fill a void). Of course I’ll be sad to see House go…love the show but more importantly, love that character. It’ll be hard to see Hugh Laurie play anything else (like John Heder from Napolean Dynamite…luckily he bounced back to play other roles, but only to find himself voicing his own character again 7 years later on the cartoon spinoff!). Although I do have to disagree with the show ending on a high note…it has really suffered in season 8 and to no surprise will lead to its demise. Like the Office (take a hint NBC), that show’s gone about as far as it can go.
