Big Bang Theory – You can’t put a saddle on Leonard Hofstadter

When the boys want to play video games, their girlfriends all have different reactions. Raj's breakdown, though, takes the cake.

- Season 5, Episode 19 - "The Weekend Vortex"

When you look back at the history of The Big Bang Theory, it’s just the teensiest bit amazing that Raj waited this long to have this particular breakdown. Leonard and Howard have had girlfriends; now even Sheldon has accidentally found himself in a relationship (as I reread that line, all I can think of is The West Wing: “I don’t understand, did you trip over something?”). I used to believe that there was no way that Raj would ever be able to find a compatible mate. Then again, if Sheldon can, anything is possible.

I always feel so bad for Amy when she goes to Penny for relationship advice. It’s not like she’s got a lot of options, but can you really trust a woman who’s been banned from both of the Chili’s in Omaha, NE?

These were my favorite quotes from “The Weekend Vortex.” What was your favorite?

“You want to spend some time playing the new Star Wars game this weekend?” – Raj
“Oh, I don’t know. I kinda promised myself I’d get off the computer, be more physically active, get some exercise?” – Leonard
“You’re about to walk up three flights of stairs…” – Howard
“Good point. I’m in.” – Leonard

“It will be like our World of Warcraft party a few years ago when the neighbors called the cops on us.” – Leonard
“They called the cops because of the smell; they thought we were dead.” – Howard
“We were badass back in the day.” – Raj

“Hey, Sheldon: clear your weekend. Starting Saturday morning: Star Wars marathon.” – Leonard
“Movies or video games? No, board games! Or trading card games! Or Legos! Or dress up! Or comic books! Or dramatic readings of novelizations! Yes to all!” – Sheldon
“We are going to play the online game.” – Leonard
“The online game? Bully!” – Sheldon

“We’ll miss you Sheldon!” – Leonard
“Yeah, well, who wants to spend the whole weekend running around a bunch of pretend planets battling made-up monsters? That’s for babies!” – Sheldon
“Yeah, but it’s got lightsabers.” – Howard
[To Amy] Please, Amy! It’s got lightsabers!” – Sheldon

“I’d make fun of Sheldon for having girl problems, if I wasn’t shocked that Sheldon has girl problems.” – Leonard

“If you don’t want to go to the party, just don’t go! You’re a grown man. Act like one. Tell Amy you want to spend the weekend having a sleepover and playing video games with your friends!” – Howard

“I can never find the tiller. I got a book; it didn’t help.” – Raj

“When’s the last time I asked you to do something for me?” – Sheldon
“Yesterday. You made me to look in your ear to see if there was a lady bug in it.” – Penny
“When’s the last time I asked you to do something for me that wasn’t a medical emergency?” – Sheldon
“Yesterday. You made me to look in your ear to see if there was a lady bug in it.” – Penny

“I got everything we’ll need for the big game. I’ve got low-fat turkey jerky, low-carb beer, 100 calorie snack packs …” – Raj
“You pick up a Y-chromosome while you were there? You might be short one.” – Leonard

“We’re always the good guys. In D&D, we’re lawful good. In City of Heroes we’re the heroes. In Grand Theft Auto we pay the prostitutes promptly and never hit them with a bat.” – Leonard
“Those women are prostitutes? You said they were raising money for stem cell research!” – Sheldon

“Is the Whip Sound app contextually appropriate here?” – Sheldon
“It is, but I think you might have waited too long for it to be funny.” Leonard
[Whoooop cheee]
[Everyone giggles] I was wrong, it’s still funny.” – Leonard

“Get that guy, get that guy! [Points at screen with finger gun] Phew! Phew! Phew! Phew!” – Bernadette
“Dr. Rostenkowski, it may interest you to know that saying ‘Phew! Phew! Phew!’ isn’t as effective as pressing your blaster key, in the same way that saying ‘Weee!’ doesn’t make the land speeder go.” – Sheldon
[Points finger gun at Sheldon] Phew!” – Bernadette

[Explaining her skill at Quarters] I spent a lot of my childhood throwing coins into wishing wells hoping for friends. At a certain point you start doing trick shots just to keep things interesting.” – Amy

“Excuse me, I have something to say. None of you may realize it, but I was very much looking forward to this weekend. It was going to be like the old days, the four of us hanging out, playing video games, before you all got girlfriends. Do you have any idea what its like to the be the only one without a girlfriend? Even if I get one someday, I’ll still be the guy who got a girl after Sheldon Cooper!” – Raj

I loved this episode, because I am feeling more and more like Raj as the season goes on. Much as I like the women, I too miss the days when it was the four guys and Penny. The show definitely had a different feel a few seasons ago, and while I won’t say it was ‘better’, there are a lot of times that I do miss it.
