Spooky is undoubtedly the word when it came to last night’s episode of Psych. Goodness gracious, I can’t remember laughing so hard. Oh, wait. Yes, I can. My homeboy’s grandmother once had her dentures fall out while giving an acceptance speech. Ah, good times. How is it that this team of writers manage to deliver solid scripts time and time again? Is it brainstorming? Is it gin? Perchance that’s a question I’ll never have the answer to. However, what I do know is that I’m glad Psych has returned to finish off its sixth season. So, what new hijinks did Shawn and Gus manage to get themselves into this time? Oh, you’d be surprised!
Ghost hunting! I bet you weren’t expecting that! How refreshing was it to have an episode that placed the spotlight on Carlton Lassiter for a change? After attending the crime scene of an individual that apparently hung himself within the confines of his plush and lavish condominium — how much do those go for these days? — Lassiter decided that the creepy residence was just the right home for him. I imagine he got the place cheap. With the economy being what it is these days, I can’t say that I blame him. Wait … wait a second. I take that back. That’s just spooky … and wrong. The situation gets a bit complicated when things start to take a creepier turn in the direction of The Shining. Elderly twins live down the hall. Chairs end up magically stacked in the home. Blood drips from a chandelier. A weird kid likes to ride his tricycle up and down the hall, and an unsettling Sara Rue is on hand to introduce herself with a welcome basket ten sizes too big. Everything just seems off. Needless to say, when things start to get a bit too unnerving for his tastes, Lassiter turns to the only men he can trust — resident Ghostbusters Shawn and Gus. Heaven help us.
I have to admit that I got a kick out of seeing our heroes dressed up as the Ghostbusters. It was pretty hilarious to see them eagerly wanting to help Lassiter because it was a case dealing with a haunted home. Still, I liked the fact that they genuinely cared for the guy and didn’t want to see him hurt despite how he treats them. Also, what a treat it was to see the legendary Louis Gossett, Jr. as the building manager … who happened to be the prime suspect in this whole ordeal … at least until he turned up dead in a washing machine. Tragic. Now, before all of this went down, Lassiter was chalking all of these bizarre coincidences up to his imagination, but with the help of Juliet and Henry, Shawn is able to learn the spine-chilling history of the building. Meanwhile, Lassiter’s being driven to madness.
And this, for me, was the highlight of the episode.
Seeing Lassiter go bonkers while clutching an axe and chasing poor Gus around was utterly hilarious. Was it just me or did Dule Hill own that scene? Every time he screamed, I just lost it. Anyway, once the team learns that there’s an inhalant in the condo that drives people crazy, they pinpoint the true culprit — Sara Rue! Ah, still vengeful after ABC canceled Less Than Perfect. Shame. Case closed! But wait there’s more! Captain Kirk, um, I mean William Shatner returned as Juliet’s father in the final five minutes of the show to withhold his blessing regarding his daughter being with Shawn. Sheesh. I hope I never get a father-in-law like him. Then again, if my father-in-law were the Shat, then perhaps I could learn to deal with it. Beam me up, dammit!
As is customary with our Psych reviews, here are some of the quotes that made me smile …
And that’s about it. Can you think of anymore? What did you think about this episode of Psych? Did you find it entertaining? Did you laugh out loud when Gus screamed? Lord knows I did. And did anyone spot the pineapple? Once again, I didn’t. I may need to look into getting contact lenses. Feel free to sound off in the comments below!
Why, oh why, oh why isn’t Sarah Rue a regular in the cast of a television show I watch on a weekly basis?
She’s been cast in the new pilot, “Malibu Country” with Reba McEntire.
The only response I have to that:
Why, oh why, oh why isn’t Sarah Rue a regular in the cast of a television show I would watch on a weekly basis?

She did do a pretty good job in this episode, didn’t she, Ivey? I kinda figured that she was the culprit the whole time though.
I was fixated on the pregnant lady. She was just freaking me out.

Oh, yes! I forgot about her! LOL From the moment Sara showed up with that damn over-sized basket, I was like, “She did it!” It was good to see her on television again. She’s a good actress. It was a good episode, definitely one of my favorites.
IIRC Lassiter was chasing Gus with a sword not an axe like in the movie.

Thanks, Julio! I think I was just too focused on Gus screaming like a girl. That was just too funny.
Very entertaining and clever episode. Laughed at several scenes and the Shining touches were well done. Anyone else recently catch Maggie Lawson on an episode of Justified playing a very, very bad (homicidal) girl? She was terrific.
