Dancing With the Stars – Another shocking elimination

It was a bit of a shock to see Jack Wagner go home last week, but this week's elimination had even more surprises in store.

Sherrie and Val eliminated

Another Dancing With the Stars elimination, and another WTF moment … actually, there were many when it came to who was safe and who was in danger.

First, I have to disagree with my pal Tara on her assessment of Gladys. I thought she did just fine, and I didn’t find her stiff or boring in the least. I also have to agree/disagree with her on Gavin. Yes, he’s shown improvement, but this week was just awkward and bizarre. I don’t know what was going on with his posture, but if anyone should have been in the bottom two, it should have been him. And even after the judges were all over him about his posture, he still got two 8s?!?

The judges were in rare form this week, snipping at just about everyone whose name wasn’t Donald, and I think they were unjust in some of their criticisms, especially of Katherine. I thought her Paso was terrific. Granted, compared to the dancing we’ve seen so far this season, Rock Week was a bit of a disaster on the dance floor. If Cheryl losing a shoe wasn’t bad enough, there was the double whammy of Melissa hitting her head on Max’s leg and knocking him down, resulting in either whiplash or a mild concussion (who knew Max’s calf was that hard?!) and keeping her away from the results show. Good thing she was safe (and I have to agree that even with the fall, it was her best dance yet).

But with Gladys at the bottom of the leader board yet again, she managed to pull through. And Gavin managed to avoid the red light of doom. And with Melissa and Jaleel also safe, that meant that all of the higher scorers were dancing on eggshells. This week’s bottom two prove that fan votes have a huge impact on the results, and sometimes it’s just not fair. The first to learn of their fate was Rochon & Chelsie — the second place couple of the week! Seriously?! The guy that Carrie Ann called the best dancer of the men this season (and seriously, Carrie Ann, better than Donald?) was in the bottom two!

As shocking as that was, I really thought Sherrie Shepherd had more fans voting for her that would carry her a little farther in the competition. My best guess is that there were a lot of sympathy votes cast for Melissa as well as for Maria, who’s been dancing with cracked ribs and now a fractured foot! Either that or people are just cruel and want to see the stars suffer even more. In the end, it was the lower scorer of the bottom two, Sherrie, who was sent packing and the ballroom will be a little less bubbly because of it.

Were you as shocked as everyone else? Who do you think should have gone home this week? Cast your vote in our poll below (you have until the start of next Monday’s show, April 16th, to cast your vote).

Chuck.
Dude…
You didn’t find Gladys stiff or boring? Your glasses on your icon should be rose colored and not black. She’s not good, Chuck.
And!
Gavin did improve and you admitted it. He would not have gotten 8’s otherwise.
I have to say that Melissa’s “thing” happened at the very end as I walked away to do my review. I completely missed it.
I do agree with you though, about Sherrie. I thought The View … um “viewers” would be much stronger in their support.
But as we know? The wind does not always blow the way we think on these shows.
Now … if only we could get Jaleel the heck out of there …

Nope, I didn’t. Maybe hearing about how bad she was before seeing the show colored my perception, so it wasn’t as bad as I had it already in my mind. I’ve definitely seen worse. (Look back at Nancy Grace! Or Kate Gosselin!!) Like Len said, she needs a nice waltz to really let her shine since she’s had all fast dances thus far.

And I did say Gavin improved … last week! This week he was positively creepy with those shoulders. And look at the poll above. As of now, the votes favor him going this week too.

As for Melissa, I don’t think anyone really knew what happened until reviewing the tape. Even Maks said he thought he slipped on her skirt, but when he saw the replay, it was clear that her head knocked him off balance, but he kept it together enough not to completely drop her. We’ll see if she’s back Monday. Maybe if she can’t continue, they’ll bring Sherrie back!
