30 Rock – Jenna Yokos a band

Jenna crossed several things off her "sexual walkabout" to do list this week as she bedded a member of the hit children's music group, The Woggels.

- Season 6, Episode 16 - "Meet the Woggels!"

There was a lot doing on this week’s episode of 30 Rock. We had the return of Elaine Stritch as Colleen, Jack’s always funny mother, Jenna experiencing her sexual walkabout with a children’s band, and Tracy bonding with his son. Then there’s Pete! A week after being a featured player, this week Pete didn’t even show up. Fate is a cruel mistress.

I always look forward to Elaine Stritch’s appearances on 30 Rock. It’s always fun to see Jack challenged and no one does it better than his mother. Whenever she’s back in Jack’s life things always tend to end on a sweet note too, which is hard not to enjoy. I think my favorite moment of the episode may have been when Colleen ejected the battery from her own heart pump just to get Liz to shut up.

Well, that’s not entirely true, because my favorite moments of the episode probably had to be the brilliantly bizarre (and often disturbing) songs of The Woggels, the Australian children’s group that Jenna was trying to “Yoko.” From the inappropriately sexual themes to the downright offensive racism, the songs were absolutely crazy. The one that played over the end credits was great and so was the one that was nothing but a list of “things.” The writers must have had a blast with these. Things didn’t look good for Jenna and Paul at the end of the episode, but I think those two crazy (and I mean really crazy) kids will be back together before the end of the season.

Finally, there was the story of Tracy and his son, who was ready to go off to college. Tracy was terribly disappointed in his son’s achievement, as he broke the longstanding Jordan tradition of not going to college. The plot really didn’t work for me even if Tracy’s disappointment turned out to just be that he wanted to spend more time with his son.

Quotes:

“I know The Woggels! My 8 year old niece walked down the aisle to that song at her wedding.” – Kenneth

“He’s useless in a hospital. I recall this one time he cried and cried. I mean it was more like wailing. It was awful!” – Colleen
“She’s referring to my birth.” – Jack

“There is no need for us to start jabbering about our feelings and sobbing like Bill Belichick listening to Adele.” – Jack

“It’s good. It’s really good. And this is coming from someone Quincy Jones once pushed off a boat.” – Jenna on her boyfriend’s song

The Woggels were by far the funniest part of this episode IMO… Would love to see them worked in again somehow. I was howling at the end credits song, and I’m glad they’ve been having such fun with those lately.
