Bob’s Burgers takes to the road

The Belchers go mobile when Bob acquires a food truck. Comedy ensues. Not only was this the best episode of the season thus far, it might have trumped everything that's come before it.

- Season 2, Episode 5 - "Food Truckin'"

When you realize you have to cram the entire life of a food truck story line into 22 minutes of episode, you come to grips with the fact things have to zoom along at a pretty good clip. Bob’s Burgers didn’t disappoint us there.

Our buddy from “Sacred Cow” — Randy Watkins (Paul F. Tompkins, Mr. Show with Bob and David) who was doing the film documentary on Bob back in season 1 — made a return appearance to further pester The Belchers. This time Randy bugged Bob with tales of the “glamorous” and fast-paced world of roach coachery.

In the process, all sorts of tom foolery unfolded before our very eyes. The episode was loaded with gags and quotes and situations, too many to mention here. There was action, adventure, innuendo, drunken debauchery, a festival atmosphere, ‘splosions, sight gags, duct tape an uncomfortable vocal performance, Tina enacting dual personalities, Gene yelling frantically and Louise doing the usual to stir the pot. Whereas that might sound like a typical Bob’s Burger episode, I have to say this may have been the best one yet.

I can’t find a link, but one of the best parts of the episode came at the south end of the video below when Bob began arguing with Randy about acquiring a food truck for his very own. To have been in the studio while H. Jon Benjamin and Paul Tompkins recorded that scene must have been a blast and a half. If you saw the anecdote, you know what I’m talking about. The back and forth conflict against each other had to have been hilarious.

And … I don’t know what this is exactly, but it’s become my new ear worm. I would be doing you a disservice if I didn’t share it. It’s because I’m a giver. I’m known for that:

Quotes:

“Plan B, Dad: I’m slashing tires.” — Louise’s back-up plan to rid Ocean Avenue of food trucks that are stealing business from Bob’s Burgers

“It’s not a lie if you lie to vegetarians. Dad taught us that.” — Gene to Tina about her fibbing that sample burgers distributed being soy-based

I caught on the credits that the “oil spill” performer was none other than Megan Mullally, and then I totally noticed it was her voice in the end credits song.
