American Idol – Another one bites the dust

Let's put it this way: There's no way you can survive 6 trips to the Bottom 3 and still hope to advance to the next stage of the competition ... I don't care if you've got a 'whole lotta love' or not ...

- Season 11, Episode 33 - "Top 6 Elimination"

American Idol beat me to it. The words were flashed on the screen at the very start of the program as the Idols’ montages and images faded in and out during the intro.

It didn’t matter. I still used “another one bites the dust” in the title. I know, I know … not very nice, indicating a contestant has been voted off, but it’s a little less harsh then showing it on millions of television screens coast to coast, right? After all, how could I not use it? When Queen and their music is featured on back to back episodes, it’s kind of a given that’s what you use. (And you have to admit … it fits perfectly.)

So … who bit the dust? Elise Testone. You can’t survive a sixth (SIXTH!) trip to the Bottom 3 — let alone a forth in as many consecutive weeks — without your luck finally running dry. She’s just been too comfortable in the spot. The glimpses of brilliance, bright as they were, couldn’t hold a candle to the fact there were some major foibles in her abilities. Plus, there’s that pesky voting public who just couldn’t support her any longer.

It was a nice run, Elise. Holding out and entertaining us right through the Top 6 on Idol is nothing to sneeze at, let me tell you. We’re going to miss your “whole lotta love.”

Notes:

  • Anyone notice Phillip wasn’t in the Ford commercial?
  • There was a reason Stefano didn’t get past the Top 7 last season. His guest performance this episode should have told you why.
  • McWowZah. I was really impressed with the lead singer of The Queen Extravaganza, right down to his jawline. The dude did Freddie Mercury proud with his rendition of “Somebody To Love.” I want to look into this tribute band all the more now.
  • I was a bit surprised Skylar was called out as the last hopeful relegated to the Bottom 3 over Phillip. But that was short lived when my little buddy Seacrust shoo’d her away with the other advancing contestants.
  • With a forth venture into the Bottom 3, there’s little hope Hollie will survive next week.
  • First time I’ve ever seen Katy Perry tired and lifeless while performing.

One Response to “American Idol – Another one bites the dust”

Goodbye, Elise. *nervous teehee*

I thought the other contestants had said something about Phillip “getting out” of a shoot during the roast prior to the second song on performance night. I know someone [Ryan? Jimmy? Steven?] said something about working through his health issues to put out “Fat Bottomed Women”. I wonder if some of the facial expressions and pulling the leg up while singing are a response to pain he is feeling when pushing out a note. Kidney stones are like that.
