So … only one last episode of Glee until we say farewell to the graduating seniors (yes, Puck will graduate, don’t worry) and already I’m getting a bit misty eyed.
Look: I said a bit. I’m not going all soft on ya. There’s too much snark left inside this gal. However, it’s my birthday tomorrow (or today or yesterday depending on when you’re reading this) so I’m claiming that I had a right to be slightly touched by a few scenes this week.
Goodbyes are difficult, after all. Especially in high school, when you and your friends are being spread all over the winds. And you have to leave some of them behind, and maybe home for the first time ever (although that could be a mighty good thing), and your dog Dudley . . .
Yep. A completely bittersweet time. The writers of Glee aren’t disappointing in taking on some of the big topics involved in commencement. They’re also throwing tons of fun stuff in along the way. So I wasn’t too surprised that this two hour episode only felt like one in Dog Years.
Tina’s “body swapping dream” after she fell into the fountain at the mall and hit her head, was highly amusing. The only problem was that by the time I realized that Kurt was Finn and Finn was Kurt and Sue was Shue and Puck was Blaine etc.? The entire gag was over. I guess that’s why the tweens at home DVR this sucker and watch it multiple times.
At least Tina got her standing ovation out of the whole deal, and a “lesson” to boot. (Yes, we’ve discussed there are always lessons to be learned within the Glee script.) That being, if you do the right thing, bide your time, and be a team player? In the end, you just may be rewarded with your own time in the sun.
It was refreshing to see her let go of the jealousy she’s harbored toward Rachel, and even help her get to Madame Tibideaux (hi Whoopi!) for an “in person” and heartfelt plea to come to Nationals to give Rachel another chance at getting into NYADA.
Speaking of Nationals? Who among us was caught off guard by Madame showing up and loving Rachel as she sang it outta the ballpark? Of course we weren’t. But that is the beauty of Glee sometimes. They give us what we want to happen. Not what probably would happen in Real Life.
New Directions winning Nationals, by the by, was a no brainer. Although Vocal Adrenaline had Wade “Unique” Adams (played beautifully by The Glee Project runner up Alex Newell), they didn’t have much else. Yes, fancy dancers and background singers, but last I checked it was a show choir competition.
New Directions showcased (almost) everyone in their three numbers, especially the graduating seniors as it should be and has been since the beginning of time, I do believe.
And they were fabulous.
Coach Beiste and Puck also learned their own lessons and helped each other out, with regards to standing up to violence and in turning away from it. Their duet together was very sweet, as was the scene in which Puck had a minor meltdown and Beiste hugged him with tears in her eyes saying, “People think nothing hurts us. But it does.” *sniff*
I also have to admit to sorta kinda having a moment at the end of tonight’s show, as Mr. Shuester was presented with the Teacher of the Year Award. It was all so “Goodbye Mr. Chips-y.” I just couldn’t help it. The kids love him, he loves them back. They’ve been through all this stuff …
C’mon! I know you cried too. ‘Fess it.
There, there. They were “happy” tears. And don’t worry. I’m stocking us up on tissue for next week’s graduation finale!

Okay, I will be first. LOVED these two episodes. I am still giggling over the Halloween flashback. Darren as Blaine as The Situation is just too much. And I loved the whole winning Nationals, and Teacher of the Year part. Just had me all misty.
The one thing that bummed me more then anything……yet again Klaine can’t kiss. During the celebration ALL of the couples (except Klaine) got some lip-lock action. Even Britanna, Where’s the equality? Blaine and Kurt have been an onscreen couple for 14 months now. And they have only ever kissed in 2 episodes. WTF!
The kid and I watched. The music was a lot of fun. I had to look up STARSHIPS that Vocal Adrenaline sang. With Unique singing I really liked it. Then, I perused Youtube to find it is a Nicki Minaj (PU) song. Her original is stinky in comparison.
As a former show choir enthusiast, it kind of aggravates me that they have 3 judges who aren’t related to music whatsoever other than listening to the radio. In any competition there were judges in place who could read music and had the sheet music in front of them. OK, back to fantasy as I know reality isn’t in play with television.
Overall, fun episodes … exception being the domestic abuse situation. She left him. Thank God!
All you need is LOVE & GLEE! My fellow “Gleek” (my daughter) & I were beside ourselves finding out that we had not only 1 but 2 hours of “Glee” to watch! Yes, we allowed her to stay up past her bedtime to watch them both…”I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom.” Oh, joy & rapture! Of course these episodes were somewhat predictable but the music choices & performances were my absolute fav of all season….the switcharoo squence was genius! Lots of laughs & tears-YES the mist was flowing and my mascara smudging…can’t believe next week will be the season finale…and that when they come back again for a new season a lot of the characters we’ve grown close to will be gone :( …it will be interesting to see what the new “Glee Project” will glean for the next season of Glee….anxious to see some new undiscoverd talent….
