It’s another heavy cable week at the DVD emporium with FX’s Louie and Wilfred taking the lead. The two shows share a common trait. Not a lot of people watch either of them, but those that do watch really like them. That’s probably reason enough to check them out if they haven’t set off your TV radar yet.
As I looked through this week’s list, I really wanted to make An Evening With Sherlock Holmes the pick of the week. For me, the Basil Rathbone Holmes remains the cream of the crop where live-action Sherlock is concerned. Unfortunately, in reading through reviews of that particular set, the quality is pretty abysmal. It might still be worth it just to get the 15 hours of radio broadcasts, but I’m going another direction for pick of the week. While it’s not a new release, it does have much better reviews. If you like your Holmes to be of the Rathbone variety, check out The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection. Of course, there will probably never be a truly complete Sherlock collection, but this one does gather the 14 Rathbone/Bruce movies, which is a terrific start.
