Dr. Horrible’s Felicia Day moonlights for Sears

Commercials are the great equalizer, aren’t they? You may like a particular actor, for instance, and think that they’re having a great career. Then they pop up in an ad, and you realize that most of them are struggling along just like the rest of us.

Take the case of our favorite Twitterer, Felicia Day. By most standards, she’s doing quite well as an actress; geeks everywhere swooned at her turn as Penny on Joss Whedon’s internet sensation Dr. Horrible. She also had a meaty patient-of-the-week role on House. But if you’ve been watching commercials lately (and that’s fewer and fewer of you, thanks to DVRs), you might have noticed Day hawking washing machines for Sears, as part of their “Blue Appliance Crew.” Video is after the jump.

Hey, an internet video and a House guest spot don’t exactly pay all the bills, and a woman’s gotta work, so good for Felicia. An actor would kill for a prominent spot in a major ad campaign.

It makes me wonder, though, if Felicia got the Sears job because of Dr. Horrible or not. The nerdier fans will recognize her, but the vast majority of the country probably doesn’t know who Joss Whedon is, much less that Dr. Horrible even existed.

By the way, the last time I saw this ad was during a commercial break on How I Met Your Mother. Very strange to see Neil Patrick Harris (Dr. Horrible himself) and Felicia “reunited” like that…

I thought that was her! I thought I was seeing things; too bad I don’t need a washing machine, or I would run to Sears.

LOL good eye. A girl’s gotta subsidize her unpaid web career somehow! And in fact, being recognized is NOT good for commercials, they want anonymous faces instead of ppl they know, so cross fingers that ad people don’t watch web video! :)
