If Better off Ted fails, it’s all Andrea Anders’s fault

andrea anders better off ted

Did you watch Better off Ted this season? Judging by the dismal ratingsit gets week after week, my guess is no. In fact, I actually thought it had been cancelled, and was pretty shocked when I found it would be coming back as a mid-season replacement. What’s even more shocking (follow along if you can here), is the lack of shock I would have experienced had it actually been cancelled. Confused yet?

This is not your typical “Of course they cancelled it, because ABC cancels any good/funny/clever/adjective-of-your-choice show without giving it a chance to develop an audience” rant. No, I didn’t give a crap about Pushing Daisies, and I never watched a single episode of Eli Stone. The reason why I expected to see Better Off Ted up on the chopping block is because Andrea Anders has a semi-starring role in it, and every show she is on gets cancelled.

Joey, anyone? The Class? Oh, you forgot those shows ever existed? Exactly. I’m not saying either of those shows were awesome, or horrible. I watched and enjoyed both, even though I wasn’t heartbroken by their inability to score a second season. Here is my train of thought, though: the first time I watched The Class and saw Anders, I thought to myself, “Hey, it’s the chick from Joey!” Then, when I watched the premiere of Better Off Ted, I thought to myself, “Hey, it’s the chick from Joey! And The Class! Those shows didn’t last very long. Uh oh.

Now, in spite of my own better judgment, I’ve become quite attached to this little show. It’s fun, quirky, and appeals to the filthy socialist liberal in me that loves seeing Corporate America get made fun of. I would hate to see it get cancelled. Still, if it does, I know who I’ll be pointing my finger at.

I enjoyed The Class – never watched more than one episode of Joey – and I love Better Off Ted…and Andrea Anders! Hope the third time’s the charm for her!

Better off Ted is an awesome show. It is funny and I look forward to it every week and just like pushing daises, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money, ABC will cancel better off ted as well. AND I watched Joey and The Class and enjoyed both because of Andrea Anders. SHe is funny as hell!!!

Joey had a second season. A terrible one, but still it existed…

Yeah, I always forget about that second season. Whoops! For some reason I thought it was shortened, too, but I was surprised to see a full 22 episodes listed on IMDB.

It aired 15 and the rest aired in Australia, Sweden and other countries.

It actually got better in the last episodes (just like on “Back to You”). I hated the token black guy, it was so obviously a ratings stunt. Which now reminds me of “‘Til Death” (yuuuuuuuck).

Anyway, I enjoyed all of these shows but “BOT” is a real highlight. Funny thing is I thought the same about Andrea Anders when the show started airing. They started filming new episodes this week (or was it last? Whatever, I’m a fan on Facebook they mentioned it there). Can’t wait for it to return.

But honestly, it all wasn’t Andrea Anders’ fault. She has that one type of persona she plays and I really think this time it fits. It felt off on “The Class” and remember, she was the second choice on “Joey” (more intelligence, less cleavage was the idea). I think it worked on “Joey” as well but the problem were the other actors. Matt LeBlanc suddenly had to play an intelligent version of Joey, or better a guy with actual feelings – which was kind of ok with Rachel but now there was this new woman who was supposed to be so interesting – and there we were with Andrea Anders who’s everything BUT interesting. She doesn’t have that special something if you ask me but on “Ted” that’s ok because Veridian is such a weird company with so weird people I really think it fits perfectly.

And don’t remind me of “The Class”. Andrea with this Jock guy and then her highschool maybe-boyfriend – that was kinda neat but then again nobody on that show had any chemistry with anybody. It all felt like a “spin the bottle” party.

Still I watched all episodes. I’m a sucker for comedy :-)

I don’t watch Better off Ted because of Andrea Anders.

Better Off Ted is slowly becoming one of my favorite shows! You may have a point…but I’m going to hope the third time is the charm. I don’t know if Andrea Anders is quite in Ted McGinley territory yet.

You needn’t be a socialist to enjoy the deft satire on this show. If it’s canceled I would blame the sharp writing and quick wit it presents rather than the curse of the showkiller actor, qualities I would personally ascribe neither to Joey nor The Class.

Better off Ted is great! I love the Veridian Dynamics “commercials”. You just know when you watch them that the voiceover on them is what it running through executives heads.

Go to YouTube and search for Veridian Dynamics to see the “commercials”. My favorite is the “When Presidents Talk” one.

I can’t understand why they would bury all these episodes in the summer when they plan on bringing it back next year. Most people are starved for scripted shows in the summer, with some semi-decent advertising they probably could have gotten decent ratings.
