Will Bones fans ever accept Angela with someone beside Hodgins

- Season 5, Episode 6 - "The Toughman In The Tender Chicken"

Angela and Wendell

The story of Angela and Hodgins is, to many fans, as integral to the overall plot as the story of Brennan and Booth. It started with a crush, was solidified with a Gravedigger, and almost ended in marriage. Despite the fact that the two have been broken up for quite some time, many fans, this one included, always suspected that the two would find a way back to each other. What if something stood in their way? Not a little bump in the road like Roxie, but something with more long term potential?

This week, we saw the first hints of a burgeoning relationship between Angela and Wendell (And by “hints,” I mean them making out in the lab, in case you missed it). Angela was coming to an end of her self imposed celibacy vow, and Wendell, whom I think has always had a thing for Angela, was in the right place at the right time. More important than the timing, though, was his fairly sweet reaction to Angela’s mission to save the piglet. Despite the fact that he professes his love for all things pork, and meat in general, he still gave up every dollar he had in his pocket.

That act of compassion ended in a kiss, but the connection was more than just one scene, and was apparent to Booth at the end. Only Cam and he caught on by the end of the episode, so Hodgins was still in the dark. I wonder how long the relationship will last, because I think the characters (though not necessarily apparent yet between the actors) could develop some nice chemistry. I think Wendell is a much bigger roadblock to Angela and Hodgins than, say, Sully was to Bones and Booth.

What do you think? Are you a Hodgins/Angela ‘shipper, or are you liking what Wendell brings to the table?

Other stuff:

  • How much Bones would a woodchuck annoy?
  • Loved the conversation between Hodgins and Wendell (actually a lot more) as a Fringe homage
  • When Deschanel was slimed with the syrup, you could totally see her smiling and having a good time.
  • I love a good chicken sandwich as much as the next guy, but I was kinda pulling for Angela’s chicken revolution.
  • Loved the Booth/Bones dynamic about her fight with Angela, but Sweets getting kicked under the table was classic.
  • “OK, if I have sex, will you donate to save my pig?”
  • I didn’t think I would like a possible Angela/Wendell pairing, but I was totally wrong.
  • “I got demoted from Plucker. Bet you didn’t think there was something worse than Plucker?”

I’d like the show to have a point. Honestly each week I wonder why I bother watching, the sad answer is I like the interns.

The show used to have an over arching storyline because who sleeps with who. Booth had his kid, Bones was looking for her dad, things like that.

Now it’s just “Who will be the intern this week”, “Who will Angela screw?” or worse, because we know the answer, “Will Booth and Bones kiss / sleep together?”

I love to see them together.
Angela and Wendell!

Bones and Booth!
Angela and Wendell!
I love it!

I like Wendell. And I think Hodgins and Angela are a mismatch, so score one for the other side!

I’m hoping this is preparing fans to hate Angela in advance of killing her off or dropping her from the show. Her character is so rediculous – she’s an artist, ooh she is also a genius programmer, her dad is ZZ Top! I know her primary role is to be a human counterpart to Brennan’s Spock-like logic, but even that wears thin when considering Brennan is an Anthropologist and should be less dense about the world. I guess Zack was supposed to be more extremely logical, but his demise was rediculous too. I’d rather see him & Hodgins as players, bones & Booth get together and replace Angela with more interns.

Oh! You remind me to ask, whatever happened to the cool 3D face technology they used in the first couple seasons? Now they have very cartoon faces when before they would have a realistic 3D model.

I think, ironically, that the complaint was that it was a totally unrealistic technology.

That was the whole point of the show! A very small sci-fi feel to the show, it wasn’t very distracting at all and I think the cartoon chicken was much worse then very small bit of sci-fi that will be real within 20 years.

I always thought Wendell and Cam were gonna get together.

A lot of apparently cranky people watch Bones while hating it.

Wow.

Huh… I don’t think I understand… I LOVE Bones, and most of the comments were positive……?

no mention of Booth holding Bones’ hand for an extended period of time? I’m sure even Sweets saw it. Booth is still in love with her, you could see it in how he was acting during that scene!!!

I saw it, but at this points, the little hints, nudges, and winks to finally getting these two together, they all just run together at this point :)

Huh, I’ve been annoyed at them breaking up Angela and Hodgins for a year, but Wendell with her was darned cute and suddenly I don’t mind so much if they go there.

Maybe it’s because I didn’t watch the seasons chronologically (I started with Season 3 and 4, and then Season 1, and now Season 5. I’ve only seen a few episodes of Season 2), but I really didn’t feel any chemistry between Angela and Hodgins.

So yeah, I think Angela and Wendell is a good thing to have at this point in the show. :)

I’m fine with Angela and Wendell, as long as it finally gives us a break from hearing about her love life/sex drive. It’s gotten so inappropriate that I feel like Clark the Intern.

And Angela hitting up all her other friends for donations was fine, but I thought it odd that she would ask Wendell, the scholarship student from a working-class family whose walking around money was probably slim, when her own salary at the Jeffersonian must be considerable.

As a long time fan of the show, I’m quite partial to the Angela and Hodgins relationship. I’ve watched the show since day one and I’ve gotten to see that relationship grow into something wonderful…but that’s not to say that I’m not open for change. I think that Angela and Wendell could be a good match. Either way, I’ll still love the show. I always have and I always will. :)

I am definitely an Angela & Hodgins fan. I love them together, and I don’t really like any of the interns, except for Mr. Nigel-Murray. I really want to see Angela & Hodgins get back together.

OMG Hodgins and Angela were awesome together. They complimented each other, she seemed to calm him down. PUT THEM BACK TOGETHER. Why is it whenever there is a good couple, the writers break them up? PLease let one good couple stay a great couple!!!!! BOnes & Booth, Angela & Hodgins…..PLEASE LET THEM LOVE EACH OTHER!!!!!

I have been watching today’s episode but I really don’t like the Angela and boy parts. I thought I was going to be able to handle by keep believing that eventually she and Hodings would get back together but I can’t. I want the arch over and done with faster than NOW. I hope, like you, that it’s just a road block for great Hodings/Angela things to come. Till than Weldell has lost a lot of points in my book b/c he really shouldn’t have gone there. I think Angela actually wanted to end her celibacy period with Hodings but he was trying to be a gentleman. Hopefully, Angela will realize that sex is not everything. Wendell is too young and, at the end of the day, they really don’t have enough in common.
