Bones – Seeley Booth, and love at first sight

The interesting dynamic between Dr. Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth has been fairly well defined for over four seasons of television now. Bones is the cut and dry, to the point, exacting scientist. Booth is the trust his gut, feel his way, law enforcement officer that always gets his man (or woman). One believes that love between two people is an antiquated belief which is better explained by brain chemistry, while the other, at least until this week, believed in love at first sight.

If we’re to believe the strides taken in the relationship between the two leads in the last season or so, we’re closer to seeing these two love birds than we’ve ever been before. Booth has admitted (if not to himself, or other characters, he has at least to the audience) that he loves Tempe. His grandfather has called him on it, chef Gordon Gordon Wyatt has called him on it … it is as true a fact as any TV love can be. But, now that his brother has beat him to the punch by taking it to the next step, a full on, if low key, nutty is thrown.

I’m not sure the TV trope of running a background check on a loved one’s new interest has ever been done on Bones, but I think we could have lived without it. Older brothers and younger brothers is a dynamic I get though, and I think it was obvious from minute one that the elder was just jealous of the younger’s finding happiness (and I don’t just say that because my little bro just got engaged … nope, not at all). Protection is a good cover story, but it was obviously Booth’s unhappiness with his own love life that was the source of the drama.

One day, we’ll live in a world where Bones and Booth will be a (TV) real couple (hey, if I can have some Josh/Donna action, I can have this, and Castle/Beckett, Shawn/Jules, Tony/Ziva….). We’ll not have to deal with this type of, let’s face it, childish behavior from our favorite weird socks wearing FBI agent (I’m sure, though, it will be a completely different type of childish behavior). Because, for me personally, I’ve loved these two since first sight.
