Bones – Reunions, reunions, everywhere

While it certainly looks like fans will have to continue to wait for their (erm, my) favorite couple to get together, things are looking up for another popular pairing.

- Season 5, Episode 17 - "The Death of the Queen Bee"

Last week’s 100th episode of Bones surely created a division amongst fans. You had everyone who thought that the final scene was a perfect representation of the characterization built over ninety-nine episodes. Then, you had the rest of us that just want Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth finally become a damn couple already (I still argue that one could have written a scene that combined both). While it certainly looks like fans will have to continue to wait for their (erm, my) favorite couple to get together, things are looking up for another popular pairing.

I’m done arguing that Brennan and Booth would (cough will cough) make a great couple. Otherwise, I could easily point to their dance tonight as a picture perfect representation of them as a couple. The good doctor might not be able to understand her feelings for her partner, but she certainly knows that she has them. I still stand by my statements from last week, that her failure to fight to figure out what those feelings mean is out of character for her.

Angela and Wendell are over. While I liked these two together originally, it was time for a change. I thought for a while that we really needed to see a long break before putting Angela and Hodgins back together. To do that right, though, you would have needed to see Hodgins doing a little “moving on” of his own. Without that, I’m glad to see these two back on track (or at least, about to be back on track). I still like Wendell, though, especially how he handled things with Hodgins from day one. He’s a stand up guy.

Sweet’s infatuation with the “mean girls” of his high school days felt a little off to me. Sure, I get the bitterness, but with Daisy in the picture, he seems to have found a perfect match. Sure, his reaction is understandable, but I think we lingered on it just a little more than we should have.

Notes & Quotes:

  • Ah, yes, almost sitcom level coincidence of Brennan’s reunion and her being called in for a case made for a clichéd set up.
  • [about Brennan] Yep, I remember you now. The creepy one.” – Officer Conway
  • OK, the “It’s Freddy creepy” line was a bit over the top, considering the guest casting.
  • And an excellent piece of guest casting it was, with Robert Englund as Buxley.
  • “Yes, we have intercourse every chance we get.” (That’s week two of my new running “Bones Intercourse Reference Count”)
  • Wow, Wendell really made “doing the right thing” sound good to Angela, but totally sound odd to me
  • Brennan has been off-putting before, but I don’t think she’s ever been as straight creepy as she was with Buxby.
  • “A girl like this, she wouldn’t have given me the time of day. Which makes her that much hotter.” – Sweets
“Sweets, I’m sure you really didn’t want to say that out loud.” – Booth
    “Slipped out.” – Sweets
  • [to Wendell and Hodgins] And you don’t need to fight. You both did well … [Walking away] I run a kindergarten.” – Cam
  • Love how all of the computers in the shop class were all awake so we could see those pretty Windows 7 logos … I love Bones but they have never had the smoothest product placement, have they?
  • I went a whole post without referring to Brennan as Bones!

How did that happen? Did we start proof-reading?

Yeah yeah I know – don’t poke the bear…

“Wow, Wendell really made “doing the right thing” sound good to Angela, but totally sound odd to me”

Angela acknowledged that it wasn’t as good as it should have been.

The Freddy line wasn’t nearly as over the top as Englund’s acting/character was.

I feel like we watched different episodes. :)

Did they ever say how long the victim was dead?

I ask because the husband gets a call saying his wife never made it to Nicaragua. Are they seriously wanting us to believe that this guy’s wife left for a foreign country, may have been gone for at least a month or longer, & never contacted him on the phone, email, or letter, yet she was going to fly back for the reunion? Yeah right! There’s no way that that scenario is believable.

Hi,there! Brennan was called the creepy girl when she was in high school, but I think that a lot of people were creepier than she was! I agree that people just didn’t understand her. This is a common problem for a lot of geniuses!

They said she had been dead for approximately ten days. I agree though, she would presumably have called when she arrived.

Did anyone have flashbacks to Angel when they saw Booth dancing? I did.
