Questions from last night’s Persons Unknown

As if there weren't already enough questions in need of answering on 'Persons Unknown,' we got a few more that would benefit from being checked off before the end of the series.

After reading several weeks of tweets and emails about the soon-to-be short-lived NBC show, Persons Unknown, I decided to give it a try a couple of weeks ago. Eventually I caught up and am pretty well hooked, though tonight’s episode sort of stood out as more confusing than I recall the others being. Here are a few new questions that come to mind:

The gifts. Some of the gifts given to the abductees — like the newspaper and the bible — made sense, as far as where they may have been obtained from. But how, for example, did the mysterious “management” get a hold of the belt that McNair threw away in a river when he was a kid? The football, scarf and stuffed rabbit are also pretty head-scratching as well.

The video of young Janet. It’s not like the camera appeared to be mounted in a hidden location of Janet’s room, it was actually following her movements around as she ran into her room and into her closet to cry. Even if Liam said she’d been watched for a long time, I doubt there was someone walking around her room with a camera.

How many towns are there? I admit I whipped through the first nine episodes in a short period of time, so maybe I missed something there, but was anyone else thrown for a loop with that second town that Mark and Kat stumbled upon? I should have known something was up when they found it in, I believe, the southern hemisphere, which is not where the other group is.

What’s with the dead bodies? So the men in blue drag bodies into the safe at town #2 and then leave. Why? It certainly appears that the group was part of another scrapped “mission” — or whatever you call it — and they met their demise. So what’s with putting them there in that town? Really, really strange and makes no sense.

What’s with Janet’s mom? And was that a person behind the clothes behind her? A couple of people have said they thought so, but I think it was a poster. But did she really turn a new leaf or was she not herself?

How did Liam survive three shots to the chest? Is it simply a case of luck or management magic-voodoo?

Could that ad for The Event be any larger? It took up at least a quarter of the bottom of the screen, for frak’s sake!

There’s only one more episode left, which I believe is going to be a couple of hours long. Can we hold out hope it will be one big answer-fest?

There are three hours left – don’t forget sometime this week the online episode will be airing.

With the mistake of the scarf still in what’s her name’s hands she let it go and it floated out of town, now I wonder if the landscape at the end of the “new” town is identical to the one of the “old” town, or if the show producers were smart enough to alter the landscape a bit for the show.

I thought they killed everyone in the South American program and then put them in body bags. I thought the bags were empty when they brought them out of the trucks, then filled and taken to the bank vault. Of course, I’m wrong about so much more, I’m probably wrong about that, too. (I’m veeeery busy watching Lake Placid 3, or I’d take a look).

CJ brought up that these people have been followed for a very long time. Perhaps Janet’s mother has always been in on this “program.”

I have little hope (this being NBC and all) that “all will be revealed” by the time we see the last scene broadcast. Here’s hoping they prove me wrong.

I love this show. There are two towns and that project was eliminated. At first, I thought it was the same town but things were happening and it did not make sense. I wonder why he had to put them to sleep by feeding them the food. I did not get that! I also thought that maybe the characters are already dead and those were the new people. This show is confusing!

I think the town in which Mark and Kat wound up was not a “town nuber 2″ but it was the same town in which Janet and all the other are. They didn’t get to cross paths because Janet and all the others were being held inside the hotel with the blinds drawn down. And: Mark and Kat didn’t even try to enter the hotel because they had to hide when they arrived and had to run away when they left (since they were being chased). Having watched episode 11 it’s now obvious that there are not only two town but 27 (at least).

Unless they were showing us two different time periods, that’s not possible. I thought it was the same town, too, but then there was gunfire and lots of activity in the streets where Mark & Kat were, then switch back to the “main” town and it was quiet.
