FOX is serious about getting people to watch Lone Star

Some PR folks sent me a bunch of 'Lone Star' swag. Does this mean the show's going to be amazing or horrible?

This picture? This is what’s currently on my dining room table. It’s a “viewing party” kit from FOX, for their new series, Lone Star. Now, I’ve been interested in Lone Star since I found out that Tyra from Friday Night Lights is in it,  so when the PR company contacted me about this I had to accept.

I’m always wary of really elaborate press kits, because it makes me think that the network is overcompensating for something. However, the White Collar swag we got was awesome, and that show is amazing — so I clearly have no idea what I’m talking about. In any case, there’s a lot of useful stuff in here.

Sure, you may be looking and the photo and thinking to yourself, “What the hell is so useful about a promotional t-shirt and some posters you’re never going to do anything with?” To which I reply, “YOU DON’T KNOW MY BUSINESS!” But I tend to overreact. In actuality, an ice bucket is totally handy, as is a beer opener with a flashlight. Also, the wine screw is surprisingly heavyweight. There’s even a pretty sweet collapsible cooler that isn’t pictured. But what I’m really excited about is the plastic wine glasses. Plastic! So when I drop them they won’t shatter everywhere. Not that that’s a particular problem of mine or anything….

In any case, they did include the DVD, so I’ll report back when I watch it. I have no idea how it’s going to be, but anything with a Friday Night Lights alum deserves at least my  initial attention.

Here’s the trailer for Lone Star:

I knew it reminded me of FNL for some reason…

. . . . .

I’m actually looking forward to this … but, up against The Event, who knows what will happen … ???

The Event will fail, one season tops. I’m thinknig more like 13 episodes. It’s on NBC, no one watches it and sci-fi mysteries fail easily, more so after the LOST finale.

Wow all I got was a shaving kit.

What’s in the back right hand corner? I didn’t get one of those, but I did get three different kinds of beer nuts, and a box of Godiva chocolates :)

Ha. It’s a bucket of popcorn. Luke was oddly excited about that.
