Community – Jeff Winger’s origin story

This week, we delve into Jeff's background, during which Britta nearly becomes a prostitute, and Annie chloroforms the hell out of a dude. Best. Spy. Ever.

- Season 2, Episode 2 - "Accounting for Lawyers"

This week, we finally get to see a little bit of Winger’s past: in the form of Rob Corddry and a newly-skinny Drew Carey. Before we move on to the episode, I just have to get one thing off my chest: I haven’t been watching Price is Right, but does skinny Drew Carey look a lot older than heavier Drew Carey? Because it sure seems that way to me, but I could also be thinking of Drew Carey just ten years younger.

In any case, he plays Ted, Jeff’s old boss, who has a disconcerting hole in his hand (although, is there really any other kind of hole in someone’s hand?). What’s more important than his defect, however, is the fact that he offers Jeff a consulting job, which he accepts. I take this to mean that we’re going to expand life a little bit beyond Greendale this season, and perhaps we’ll see Carey and Corddry back in subsequent episodes: both of which I am all for.

It’s hard to imagine an episode in which Senor Chang pops and locks for five straight hours and it isn’t the best thing about the episode, but Annie is the one who takes the cake this week. She, Troy and Abed go on a caper to prove that Alan is a bad guy, during the course of which she chloroforms the bartender from Grey’s Anatomy… twice. That whole scene with her jumping on him, and then the three of them pretending to all be chloroformed killed me. I was cackling to the point that Luke heard me from down in the basement and got worried.

Community keeps getting better and better. Even though this week changed locations, the interactions were just as hilarious, and the dialogue flowed just as well as it always does. If I had to make one small complaint, it’s that I didn’t like this week’s tag as much as I enjoyed last week’s, but then again, it’s pretty hard to top singing Toto with Betty White. However, it’s pretty cool that the tunnel Abed painted was totally referenced at the beginning of the episode when he and Jeff are talking about how cartoonish the campus has gotten. And that’s the circle of life.

Agreed — that was my favorite part of the episode, although it’s rather hard to choose that in Community!

Skinny Drew Carrey scared me. I did not recognize him– my husband pointed out who he was. The choloroform bit was sheer genius. Annie is starting to move ahead even Troy and Abed as my favorite.

I hope it’s not too late to add my 2 cents that the chloroform bit really was the best moment of the episode.
