Webisode Clack – The Rooster Teeth gang talks Immersion and the future of Red vs. Blue

Writing for CliqueClack has its perks, like getting talk to some very cool people. Yesterday, I got to chat it up with Burnie Burns and Brandon Farmahini - internet superstars and two of the masterminds behind the popular webseries 'Red vs. Blue' - about their new webseries 'Immersion.'

Recreating Super Mario Bros... all in a days work for Geoff Ramsey and Burnie Burns.

In case you don’t know, Red vs. Blue started back in 2003 and was one of the first and arguably the most popular webseries to use machinima — which is essentially using actual video game footage as animation to tell a story. The series’ game-changing 8th season wrapped up earlier this year, but the Rooster Teeth gang has also expanded into live-action shorts. Immersion, their newest live-action series, asks how well video game mechanics would work in the real world. Think Mythbusters if Mario and Master Chief produced it. Brandon and Burnie were nice enough to take a few minutes and let me pick their brains. Listen below (hint: Burnie is the one who sounds exactly like RvB‘s Church).

A few highlights:

  • Brandon and Burnie explaining why the duo of Geoff Ramsey and Gus Sorola (aka RvB‘s Grif and Simmons) were the natural choice for the show’s testers.
  • Burnie calling co-host and prop master Griffon Ramsey the Q of Rooster Teeth.
  • The guys describing the challenges of using normal kids (including Burnie’s sons) in their recent Wikileaks spoof.
  • Brandon and Burnie letting me in on the TV shows they’ve been watching (Brandon has been released of his Lost obsession and Burnie finally discovered Always Sunny!).

We also learn more about RvB‘s future: there will be a 9th season, Monty Oum will continue to provide his CGI talents to the show and due to the events of season 8’s finale, the Reds and Blues will have to move on without Tex and Church. Oh, and it will be awesome.

Immersion is being released an episode a week for the next month. You can find it and their other projects at www.RoosterTeeth.com.
