The group was all over the place in this week’s episode: Jeff was trying to ruin Pierce’s love life, while Abed was busy ruining his professor’s academic life and Britta was trying to save Troy’s. Shirley and Annie were just relegated to hanging out and getting insulted.
Since this is an ensemble of single people, it’s only natural that we get several combinations of couples from within the group. However, I’m going to go ahead and put a big “No” on Troy and Britta. It’s not quite as bad as Annie and Jeff, but Troy is 21 and Britta is around 28. While 7 years isn’t a big age difference, it’s big enough when the younger one is 21.
21-year-old guys are ridiculous individuals. Yes, Britta is emotionally stunted, but I don’t think even that would put them on an even playing field, especially since Troy is a man-child who still calls wine “no-no juice.” I dated a 21-year-old dude when I was 25, and it was pretty much the worst thing that’s ever happened to me.
What I do, however, approve of is Pierce’s marriage to Red Dragon. Sure, it may be a sham but they are devious racist heirs to a hand wipe fortunes, so it really is kind of perfect. Plus, I’m hoping that if this relationship actually lasts beyond this episode that it will make Pierce a little less gratingly evil. He’s been mostly unlikeable this season and I don’t think I’m the only one who has started to dread his storylines. I’m hoping that this will help him become a little bit more… pleasant.
This week’s episode convinced me that I went to the wrong school. Wine Tasting and Who’s The Boss? It cannot get any better than that. I’m kind of sad that Abed cracked the class in a day, because I feel like that would be a great group class for everyone to do. Who needs Anthropology anyway?
Troy definitely had a lot of the comedy in this episode, but my favorite moment was definitely at the end when he was performing in the all-Black production of Fiddler on the Roof, Fiddler, Please. It’s almost as great as the “Tigger, please!” line that got cut out of a Winnie the Pooh movie. Plus, dancing Donald Glover is awesome.

Ever since they danced together they’ve shared a certain chemistry, I have the feeling that for now this is just to appease fans the same way Annie and Jeff have kissed, but nothing of significance ever really happens.
What I really like about this show is that they’re very good about not actually having their characters date. There’s still that sexual tension, but I don’t think many shippers are actually looking for anyone to have a romantic relationship with anyone else. It’s more “Oh, look at them have a moment” than “Oh, I want them to get married and have a gaggle of babies.”
I’m 25 and dating a 22 year old. When I was 20-21 I was dating a 26 year old, neither of us acted our age and are still good friends. There is nothing is wrong with the age difference, age is just a useless number.
However I still agree, Troy can do better.
Dan has said in the season 1 commentary that no one is off limits to anyone else in the group
“Very impressive, Veronica Mars, you learned how to use Google.”
Loved the reference last night, hope to see the Red Dragon in the future
