Bones – The things that we don’t say

I’ve never been particularly coy with my criticism of Bones. In fact, I have spent a considerable amount of time bashing the hell out of it really talking about my disappointment. So it is ironic, that, in the week I return to covering Bones, that the episode is about radical honesty. Will the bashing continue, or have I been turned around? The answer isn’t simple, but I’m here, right?

Now that we’re past the Hannah debacle (Yes, I said debacle … can we just move on?), things have slowly gelled into a Season 4 kind of vibe between Bones and Booth … Except that the whole history of the past two seasons is still there. The exchange between the two leads at the end was a reminder that the dynamic between the two will never be able to revert back to where they were before.

The buzz about show runner Hart Hanson’s writer’s room when breaking the finale was about the potential hooking up of Bones and Booth. Apparently, it was a pretty heated discussion. I can tell you that half the people in the room were wrong (I won’t say stupid … apparently, criticizing Hanson online is not allowed). The idea of pairing these two characters is past its time. I’ll be watching the same as you when we find out what the decision eventually is, but to me, there’s only one respectable choice.

But how does that aftermath work? What does a post “don’t put them together” world look like for the two of them? Many shipper fans will be pissed, but, honestly no more than we they were before. And I’m not smart enough to tell you why their relationship should work in this new hypothetical world; just that it shouldn’t. But these two had a great dynamic before the idea of putting them together was jammed down fans’ collective throats … go back to that.

So, apparently a “pre-complete-ring-off” is going to be a thing now. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard the phrase before (which, honestly, sounds like something completely different). Has everyone figured this out now? If so, I guess it is time to figure out a different way to blow people off let people know I’m unavailable to take their call.
