A not-so surprising elimination on So You Think You Can Dance

Two not very surprising eliminations and an off-key musical performance did little to bring excitement or drama to the 'So You Think You Can Dance' results episode.

Mitchell and Clarice eliminated on "So You Think You Can Dance"

There were no real surprises on the So You Think You Can Dance elimination show this week. If you read the Top Ten performance post, you’ll know that I correctly predicted Mitchell would be in the bottom and out the door unless he had a killer solo. Unfortunately for him, Ricky was inexplicably in the Bottom 4 and pretty much dominated in his solo, and has become a dark horse in the competition.

The girls were much more tricky since they all had a pretty great performance night. The Bottom 2 girls were Jordan — again — and Clarice. It’s interesting to see Jordan in the bottom again, especially after she got such high praise for her performance. It’s even more surprising that the judges keep saving her since she seems to have the same problem that Ryan had: not connecting with the voters. Lucky for her, Clarice’s solo seemed more like a series of steps and moves with nothing really connecting each one  — roll across the stage here, kick here, tumble here … it was more of a gymnastics exercise than a dance routine. And maybe she was also a victim of not connecting with the voters, as Neil Patrick Harris said the night before.

The only big news of the night was the announcement of next week’s batch of all-stars: Ivan (S2); Jaimie, Anya & Pasha, Lauren G., Neil (S3), Ade (S5) and Season 7 winner Lauren F.

One thought about the show’s musical performers, Blush: Did Snoop Dogg just happen to find these girls on the way to the studio and put them on stage? The lead singer, as Randy Jackson would say, was pitchy and when the rest of the girls “sang” the whole thing went way off key. A couple of the girls even forgot to sing a few times and barely knew the choreography. If anything, it proves that they sing live … unfortunately.
